Heh ... Somebody should post the statistics (in TNZ) for the number of times folks get a line through their name for being annoyingly arrogant about a TV show they supposedly are a Fan of.

I really like the show. I didn’t think I’d see Kirk back so quickly.

Pike accesses it after they first enter the ship through the airlock hatch. And actually, it does have the blinking light like in TOS. The speaker panel is what's missing.

I think it's safe to say that most of us care more about star charts than ratings charts.

The speaker panel was always a screen. We just saw the screensaver on TOS.

A fuzzy fabric screensaver. The best kind.

In TOS they were frequenty mounted in corridors and on walls. That's what I meant.

I am half way through and very impressed. On the plus side, the characters are endearing and the stories hark back to the golden era with little continuing threads linking them. It feels like each of the characters has their own arc without being forced to be the star of one episode and then background noise for the rest of the series.

I've been astonished at how faithful they've been to Uhura and Chapel, two woefully underdeveloped characters with a ton of potential, playing it subtle with their younger versions. Jess Bush really grabbed the 5 scenes in TOS where Chapel had a personality and stitched them together into an entertaining character. She does feel a bit too front and centre when M'benga is present but I loved it when he mentioned her interest in medical archaeology.

Pike has charm and pathos in equal measure and Ortega has had more characterisation in 5 episodes than Mayweather got in 4 seasons. She just feels so much less cardboard.

Finally someone sussed that to escape a Black hole you do a slingshot, not run your engines full to try and pull away!

The minuses for me are all about the expansive feel to the sets. It doesn't feel like a submarine in space like it did in TOS. Everything just feels bigger inside and everyone feels fine beaming all over the ship. It's more restrained than Discovery was but it still feels a bit too free with the technology.

Never got a submarine is space vibe from the TOS sets. A lot of high ceilings and wide corridors. Good sized doors. Rooms were a decent size. Walls were mostly clean with an occasional pipe or widget.

Indeed, it had a more office feel to it, outside of the bridge and private quarters at any rate. The quarters were groovy.

Maybe! I guess years of watching it on a portable black nd white TV must have skewed my perception, but sickbay and the CMO office look huge. Presumably we usually saw the treatment room rather than the ward. TMP and TWOK showed how big they were.

While I wouldn't say "submarine in space" the impression I got from TOS is that the Enterprise was meant to be a rather utilitarian environment, which I will admit SNW doesn't really convey. I personally find the quarters are too huge. Admittedly, when designing the sets they probably were thinking "this is the flagship, it should be expansive and have some oomph" and with that mentality, yes, the sets make perfect sense. Though if I were trying to copy the utilitarian environment of TOS I'd have probably made Pike's quarters something the size of the quarters we saw Uhura sharing with her roommates, and make everyone else's smaller.

But no one woke me up in the middle of the night for an opinion on how to build the sets.
