Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Star Trek should film desert scenes in actual location shoots at exotic locations and save the AR wall for ‘space’ things that can not be recreated in the ‘real’ world.
Before Covid -- they DID (STD's desert scenes were all filmed in Jordan.)
^^^
They found it was VERY expensive; but they did have the budget, so if not for Covid, it might have continued.

BUT - They took that budget, and built a VERY VERY expendive AR wall, so yeah, now that they have it they're going to get their money's worth out of it (and moore power to them because their digital artists have done an amazing job with it.) ;)

I don’t think that it is a green screen, I think that it is a big high definition TV type thing.
I know..! Meant that green screens are truly damned, because I think they’re going the way of the dinosaurs with the new AR technology progressing over the years….

SNW has done some location shooting, I believe. But yes, flying cast and crew to exotic locations is feature film budget, and even with all the money being poured into the P+ shows to be able to accomplish similar quality without having to travel represents enormous time and money savings.

This all reminds me of all the green screens set up along Gold Ave. here in downtown Albuquerque to stand in for a street in New York for the big battle in The Avengers. They kept the street level as-is, but strung massive green sheets up along the buildings' upper floors for a couple of blocks.

Pike: I'd back down if I were you, Dr. M'Benga has a black belt in jiu-jitsu!

Kruge: What's a jiu-jitsu?

Korrd: Going by his mention of a belt, I assume it's a human weight loss program or something. Continue the attack!

Pike: Well it was worth a try.

M'Benga: What did you think would happen Captain? I'd walk out in a white robe and face down the entire Klingon Empire?

Olusanmokun went so far as to confirm his future with the show, saying that Season Two will explore “a darker side” of his character, including “his contentious relationship with the Klingons.”

I'm calling it now, the Klingons are responsible for Debra's death or disappearance. Maybe Cartwright from the movies is M'Benga's brother-in-law or something.

Or maybe they've never met because Earth is a big place and so is space.

Look at this instagram post from Paramount+ https://www.instagram.com/reel/CfZ7TJLAT_3/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

They all have gold stripes. Uhura is in the updated uniform we saw in the trailer and Spock is wearing two full stripes. Maybe we will see a uniform update in ep9 or 10?
There's definitely a uniform change for the season finale along with what I guess is a small time skip probably into 2260. Looking at the series trailer footage that hasn't been in an episode yet and the blue-shirt in the Kirk publicity photo points to said costuming change also for the finale.

If it wasn't for the fact we saw Uhura's new uniform in Season 1 trailers, I would have said say they filmed this during Season 2 filming and those were Season 2 updates.

So yeah maybe a short time skip in the finale.

Well, I have seen the clip for the last show of the season. Oy, vey. There are some issues with the map.

The map shows the location of Fesarius ("The Corbomite Maneuver") and Miri ("Miri"). If we go by TOS, both locations were not known to the Federation until the mid-2260s.

I had a feeling they were using the official Star charts, which date 2377. They probably thought no one would notice.
