The Orville had a porn addiction episode. Subtle?
Other shows had alcohol or drug addiction episodes, porn addiction is no different.
The Orville had a porn addiction episode. Subtle?
Given the bills currently being introduced in many state legislatures in the US, your assertion is demonstrably false.
That's not the issue. Was the episode subtle?Other shows had alcohol or drug addiction episodes, porn addiction is no different.
It wasn't subtle, and that's the point. Orville is a poor teacher..Other shows had alcohol or drug addiction episodes, porn addiction is no different.

I am not from the US, so I don't really know what's going on there. But in Europe they handle things differently, especially in Germany.
If that. It's more subtle to get struck by lightning.Orville is about as subtle as a brick to the head.
That's the topic yes? Being "in your face"?It was about an addiction, how subtle can it be?
And I bet that a lot more people are porn addicts than trans, so that episode had much more relevance to the general public. Which does not mean that I underestimate the problems that trans people have.
Exactly, they're just allowed to exist and treated like anyone else. They've never even said gay or trans, Paul and Hugh are just treated like any other couple like Worf and Dax or Tom Paris and B'elanna. Adira asks to be called by non-binary pronouns and it's never commented on, it's just respected. I don't know how they could tone it down anymore without having these characters at all, which honestly seems like the desire. That's the topic yes? Being "in your face"?
Still waiting for examples from DISCO or any other current trek show being "in your face" about LBGTQ+.

Except that at one point in ST5 Spock says that he and Sybok were "raised together".Sybok's world view was known to Spock, so at this point I do not believe they have met and talked.
So throughout Strange New Worlds, Spock needs to get to know Sybok a little. We may even get to see him trying to form his cult of followers. Maybe this took a long time, if Spock actively tried to seek him out.
"Spock! ...Spock! It's me. It's Sybok. After all these years you've finally caught up with me. Don't you have anything to say to me?"
and later...
"When he encouraged others to follow him, he was banished from Vulcan, never to return."
Sybok then needs to escape captivity, and go on the run - or is formally exhiled.
Existence. Apparently that's "in your face."Exactly, they're just allowed to exist and treated like anyone else. They were interesting characters in their own right and had plotlines. Same as anyone else. I don't recall being trans as overly important. Like more than a few characters, they got lost in the shuffle when the show moved on from their storylines.Adira and Tal? Did they have any purpose in Discovery, other than to "represent" trans people?
Grey's purpose is to be a wiz kid and adopted child of Paul and Hugh, they have a love story with their partner Grey and it's been the basis for most of their storyline so far. They help the crew adapt to 32nd century tech since they have more experience with it. They just happen to be trans too, reducing them to just trans representation is a severe misunderstanding of them as a character.Adira and Tal? Did they have any purpose in Discovery, other than to "represent" trans people?
Here is another idea: You just keep it to yourself!
You didn't LIVE during the TOS era (unlike some of us) - so yeah, TLDR - your assumption WRT that aspect during the TOS era would be incorrect.Yeah, but it has never been that annoying in the TOS/TNG era.
