Lt.Kyle

I'm wondering if La'an is actually playing an east Asian character but then I realized she may well be as there's several generations removed from Khan who was supposed to be Indian Sikh (even though neither actor who played him was of Indian ethnicity)

Was he?

SCOTT: This one was probably programmed to be triggered first.
KIRK: Could he be the leader? The leader. Lieutenant?
MARLA: (dragging herself back from just gazing at the man) Yes, sir. The leader was often set to revive first. This would allow him to decide whether the conditions warranted revival of the others.
MCCOY: Heart beat now approaching forty per minute. The respiration pattern is firming up.
MARLA: From the northern India area, I'd guess. Probably a Sikh. They were the most fantastic warriors.
MCCOY: Heart beat now fifty two and increasing.
KIRK: The others?
SCOTT: There's no change, and they're mixed types. Western, mid-European, Latin, Oriental.

Racial profiling.

She saw a brown guy and took a guess.

There's a word for that.

"Historian".

There's two ways of thinking about her job as the mother of a nation...

1. They only reproduce via test tube, so the king is not going to show her his scepter.
2. They reproduce sexually, but her genetics are inferior, and no one wants to have sex with Marla, because her babies will be small, dumb and weak.

Not sure it matters. She's Khan's wife.

The Nietzscheans on Andromeda were polygamous, so Gene probably assumed the Superman were also polygamous but the 1960s audience weren't ready for that.

Khan probably already had wives, and he was probably planning on taking more wives to spread his superior seed as far and often as possible.

Although Khan and Marla were into some weird racist roleplay...

Well not looking at animation and just live action. It had a 10 year rest and than with TMP went with just gaps between movies for 8 years and than 18 years straight of tv shows AND movies. 2005 to 2009 was the only significant rest since 1969-1979..

I know many think the current tv shows are somehow a resurgence of Trek but it really never was down. Four years is not really that long a rest.

I dont know maybe because I'm older now and our perception of time changes the older we get. So 4 years does not feel like a long time as it may have felt when I was 18 to 22 for example...lol...
Except I AM including animation. TAS was a very popular series.

The one issue with La'an is how did Spock and Uhura forget they served with a Khan family member in "Space Seed."

Well I don't. I like the animated series but it was rarely shown in reruns when I was a kid. Maybe twice. I dont think I even saw more than 1 episode until I was an adult. I think of animated shows as something seperate from live action.
