Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Quinto looks a lot more like Nimoy but Peck does a better job playing Spock. I think he is nailing it. And now he even looks more like Spock (compared to when he was on Discovery). I think the makeup people are getting better at it.
That's how I feel about it as well! Loving Peck as Spock so far, and they're definitely getting better at his look as they go on. Now just to rein in those sideburns...

Captain Jollydark and Yistaan, you both need to stop taking things personally. Ease that back. You can make the point without that crap.

As for Quinto vs. Peck - I really liked Quinto's Spock (minus being a tad overemotional) but I also like Peck too. YMMV.
Aye aye admiral.

The tricorders are gorgeous, and rather small - smaller, I believe, than the TOS versions.

All the props hew very closely to their TOS equivalents, which I love. Personally, I would've made the screen about 20% bigger on the tricorder, but in my head-canon they improved it and gave it a bigger screen by the time we see it in TOS. :)

I gotta tell you that after watching the first two episodes, It pains me that the Original Star Trek series can't not be "Fixed" to the point where they can match this level of Quality (VFX wise). I mean I was so amazed at how well the VFXs were done. I'm a little envious.

I mean, it could be. It's just that doing so would take an amount of money that Paramount is not willing to spend.

Loved the ep, but something puzzles me.

Where did the Shepherd ship come from? I know, advanced tech. but it was suddenly there, no warning. no "Captain, I'm detecting an energy surge!" or "Captain, a surface launch!" Just BAM!

Honestly, the idea that sensors are able to instantly detect things strikes me as an unrealistic trope. It makes sense to me that ships could just sneak up on one-another in the vacuum of space, particularly if they have more advanced technology. The Shepherd appeared to be at least 50-100 years more advanced than the Enterprise, so I can buy that they might just be able to absorb the Enterprise's sensor beams.
