I'll just say that one of this show's magic tricks so far is effortlessly convincing me that these people are the same ones from the original series. I buy Gooding and Peck in these roles completely, which wasn't the case with Saldana and Quinto, no matter how good they were. I don't mind at all if their characterization and the events we see in this show carry the characters in directions that don't perfectly align with the original. To me, they're already these people.
Fair enough, and certainly these things do go both ways.
At least the door's open to conversation later. I lost count of the times I've been accused of writing in bad faith because people just can't believe I genuinely have opinions that are different from theirs and so therefore I must secretly be agreeing with them and just be saying what I actually say in bad faith, apparently.
