Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

IIRC, Robert April was captain of the Enterprise before Pike. So he should be older, a higher rank, and a gold shirt. He also wouldn't be a member of the crew. Those are the issues I have. That said, April is an obscure enough character in Trek that I could bite off on this being his kid, Robert April II, or someone else with the same name.
It's the same April that captained the Enterprise before. Pike was his First Officer
April's not a member of the crew in 2259. He's an Admiral who meets with Pike on the orbital habitat over Jupiter. He's just appearing in the new series, not an Enterprise crew member.
Yeah, I suspect his presence may simply be one of "passing the sword of command" and possibly one of using the Enterprise to briefly get him from "point A" to "point B" for some kind of diplomatic mission. I highly doubt he will be a permanent part of the crew. His presence could possibly undermine Pike's authority on the ship, particularly since (theoretically) April was her first captain.

He's not a part of the Enterprise crew at any point in this story. He's an admiral, Pike's commanding officer, who comes to Montana to retrieve Pike when Our Captain declines to answer the phone. And there are indications that the actor will recur in this role a few times.

Regardless of the ages of the actors, my impression of the character is that he presents as older than Pike by a decade or more. And IMO he is very likeable.

Anyone know why the helmsman's sleeve stripes are red? I'm also guessing she's not a full commander, but hell, almost everyone else is. ;)

She has a wide stripe and a narrow stripe, hard to tell the difference sometimes. That would make her a LT. Commander, but she's been said to be a Lieutenant, so it still might be an error.

Which would fit into Trek tradition. Spock wore a full Commander's braids in at least a couple of Season 1 episodes of TOS but was still called a Lieutenant Commander.

In both this and in DSC, the rank stripes on the Enterprise uniforms matched the colour of the uniform.

However, there are shots in some of the trailers were Uhura has gold stripes not red, so who knows what's going on there. Maybe it's a reference to her wearing both colours at one point in TOS.

All these TOS appearances yawn, where are my movie characters? I want to see Sybok, Cartwright, Gorkon and General Chang.

Sir John Talbot.
Talbot: Starfleet Command won't let me clear you for duty until this therapy certifies a full recovery from your hallucinatory experience on Boreth. So tell me again Chris, how many lights do you see?

Pike: There are four lights!
