Strange New Worlds Intro

The visuals are gorgeous — they’re really leaning into “strange” in an exciting way. This is how I have dreamed Trek could look.

The music ... I found it a hard transition into the revamped theme. It just seems dull in comparison to the original.

It's the first time we've gotten the title of the series and of the first episode mentioned in the opening monologue. Also we're going to get to hear an opening monologue at the beginning of a new Star Trek episode for the first time since May 1994!

Of course the best part of this reveal is that someone can finally make a 'Greatest ever Star Trek opening credits/theme' thread now.

I loved it! Stunning visuals...the ship looks amazing (haters be damned)...and I'm sorry if this is controversial but I enjoyed the revised and updated main TOS theme......a bossanova was never something that communicated "epic space exploration" to me, but I was not alive in the 60s so maybe it makes more sense if you were around then.

At 0:22, when Pike says “strange new worlds,” what exactly are we looking at?

Looking down at one of the warp nacelles, close angle.

It made a lot more sense for at least twenty years thereafter, too.

I guess they needed fifteen percent difference here. :guffaw:

I don't think Russo can get residuals for an original composition if he just recycles Courage's theme. Or the little bit of Williams-esque "Superman" intro that he slipped in there, either. Hell, Warners have recycled that one a few times themselves.

And, of course, they needed to pad it out - the original intro is about a minute long, this one about a minute and a half.

This is exactly what I would've wanted to see for a modern Star Trek series intro. Again, as I keep saying, I'm glad Discovery and Picard do their own things, but, honestly, just getting back on a starship (the Enterprise, no less) and exploring the unknown is all I need to get me very excited.

Yes, I really agree with this. I like all the new Trek to varying degrees! But I am THRILLED to watch a show about the USS Enterprise doing the things in the opening narration. Bring it on!

I like it..!

The visuals are awesome, of course they are still missing the credits!

I like the music, but.......
First of all, I love Jeff Russo's scores, in fact, he has written some of the most emotionally powerful Trek music I've ever heard!
That said, I don't think Jeff is a very good melodic symphonist. He creates 'tone poem' like music, built around ostinatos and short motives. But a theme needs a very strong, identifiable melody! Why didn't they ask Nami (who scores the episodes) to write the theme? She is a very good symphonist, just like Chris Westlake (LDS) or Michael Giacchino..! Why not ask them, they are already in the fold...?
The theme will probably grow on me, just like the DSC theme has, but it should be strong enough on a first listen; it shouldn't take so long...
No Jeff Russo-hate, I love the guy, I love his work..! But I do think they should have chosen someone else to do the theme.
