Why can't people just have opinions anymore? It bothers some people, and not others. Let's move on.
Why do some people have to continually point out over & over, the things they don't like?
Why can't they express it once and move on?
Kinda funny how that works both ways, huh.
Yeah it makes sense, there's nothing unrealistic about it in-universe. The trouble I had with it is that it's (presumably) supposed to be a 'Hell yeah, it's Riker!' moment that brings a grin the viewer's face like he's Han Solo swooping down out of nowhere to save Luke Skywalker. But the fleet of identical ships creates a different mood. This isn't a typical Starfleet fleet made up of all kinds of ships designed for all kinds of missions. It's more like the fleet of identical Tal Shiar ships, or the warehouse of identical synths at the start of the season; it's a little unnerving somehow. Starfleet is diversity and variety, at least the Starfleet we want to see at that point, so the imagery is wrong.
Basically my initial emotional reaction was 'huh...' when it should've been 'yay!'
It's a group of ships not people.
Except Star Fleet was at it's lowest point in the intervening years since the Dominion War in which it lost countless numbers of assorted ships.
It seems way more logical to me that They decided to begin to rebuild by designing a specific ship that can be produced in large numbers and is able to be deployed at a moments notice anywhere, but can still handle any emergency that pops up.
To me, finding a reasonable In-universe explanation is way more preferable than languishing over something I have no say or control of.
They make the show..., I make it fit my head-canon, always have always will.
Except that this isn't both ways. There's a difference between pointing out what you like or don't like, and accusing people who disagree with you of having ulterior motives or mental deficiencies.
Well, if production teams can be accused of mental deficiency...
It's funny what expectations we have for Starfleet fleets versus others. I mean, I get it, but seeing dozens of Jem'Hadar fighters was no biggie, same with a bunch of identical Cardassian warships, same with lots of identical Romulan warbirds. (Thinking mostly of DS9, obviously.) Not much variety within any of those, but here we are.
First off, I haven't accused anybody (recently or in this thread) of "mental deficiencies", so yer barking up the wrong tree with that.
What I did point out is that some folks don't like to let their objection's be countered and seems to enjoy continually bringing them up in just about every thread, which any reasonable person can see IS an "ulterior motive".
One in which the person expressing their objections, apparently can't let it go.
You did accuse them of wanting to make it an issue, which implies either that they are being dishonest or that something's wrong with them. They don't "want to" make it an issue. It's an issue for them. I agree that this isn't the thread for this, which is why I called for an end to it, but for some reason you decided to keep ranting about it some more.

And yer the one who keeps bringing up the fact that it's an "issue", not me.
I'm saying it shouldn't be an "issue".

I've noticed that when you see fleets in movies and series, the antagonists will often have just one or two kinds of vessels while the protagonists will have a much more varied fleet. A fleet of identical vessels makes you think of conformity, fascism and military might, while the heroes are often underdogs that pull in help from others and find strength in diversity.
There are exceptions to this, but the visuals help strengthen the themes of the story. Like Starship Troopers has its identical heroic fleet... as the film's secretly a satire about fascism. The Star Wars prequels have identical hero ships because they're about a Republic's slide into becoming an Empire. The kind of ships you see on screen help tell the story.
Oh, trust me, if you're anything like me, we could do this for years.
I brought it up once, in reference to someone else. I think you have me confused with someone else.
Interesting disclaimer, but your last four posts would disprove that statement.
Debating your accusation is not discussing whether a copy-paste fleet is an issue. All I said is that it's an issue for some people.
Stop digging that hole for yourself and go back to the topic, please.
I don't see it that way. A ship is a ship, a vehicle, who can represent one side or the other. The prequels are a good example because unless you know which side is which (and some didn't) then they all blend the same, especially in Revenge of the Sith.
This idea of a single ship equals fascism is a strange one to me.
I would actually go with the "Shapes" of the ships as a better indicator in Star Wars.
The Empire mainly goes with sharp edges and angles while the Republic went with rounded and organic shapes.
It's a little less obvious in Trek due to the WARP designs seemingly having to have paired engines which are seen on just about all the starships.
In Trek's case "Colors" would appear to be the better indicator.
Grays & Whites for the Federation, Reds for the Vulcans and Greens for the Klingons & Romulans.
