Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I don't like the Tricorder, it feels less advanced than Discovery's, same with the communicator.

They look good as TOS era creations, don't get me wrong but they feel like a step backwards compared to Discovery's props.

Count me in as another one loving that tricorder. (Also the TOS vibe makes me glare at The Wand Company's lack of news about their TOS tricorder replica even more but I suppose that's up to supply chain issues...and it's another thread, regardless).

The squares on the communicator are a bit odd but I'm not gonna quibble about that.

Now that I look at these close up, particularly the phaser's side-profile, I really like what they've done with these. I do prefer the DSC phaser over this one, but they're still quite nicely done. Wah Chang would approve, I think.

Now if Mcfarlaine Toys (or ANYONE for that matter) would make the damn props (and accurately) for commercial purchase!

Communicator and phaser look good, as always.

Tricorder looks cumbersome.

Likely Playmates now, but the phaser will be problematic if it goes through California.

M'Benga's first name is Jabilo, which comes from the Vanguard book series
Spock's first name is S’chn [T’Gai], which comes from the 1985 Novel 'Ishmael'

Cool!

EDIT: The poster says T'Gai and TrekCore says T'Gain. I'll assume the poster is correct.

Which is a bad thing. It's not the 1960s anymore.

But by the 2250s that style will come back! It's all good. Update some things, play nostalgia at others.

I can easily see them showing up. We're going to see a lot of people who misremember "Journey to Babel" screaming about how they shouldn't be meeting but I'll live.
hell, Amanda has a line in that episode of:

Amanda: "...And you haven't come to see us for 4 years..."

So...even canonically we have Spock going back to Vulcan on leave - and if TOS S2 - "Journey To Babel" takes place in 2267, it would mean Spock last visited Vulcan in 2263; perhaps just before or as Pike handed command of the 1701 to Kirk (because Spock NEVER takes shore leave) - meaning Kirk took command late 2263 or early 2264... (but yeah, pure extrapolation here) ;)
