Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

In the past, they made far more effort at at least minimizing the discontinuities.
What Star Trek have you been watching? I've been watching Trek first-run since 1969, and I can tell you that you are completely off the mark here <--- and this extends to all Berman era 90s Trek too. It didn't make much of a conscious effort as (for example) in TNG season 1, it was established that Worf grew up on a farming Colony on a planet named Galt. Then the next time it comes up in TNG season 4, Worf has suddenly been raised on Earth all along.

I know some fans like to believe their favorite version of Star Trek somehow was more consistent than all the previous versions; but that's just a load of crap. They do what they need to do to tell the story they want to tell at the time they're telling it; and no they don't always bother to check what they've established for a character in previous episodes.

The fallacy here is believing that somehow Star Trek has always been a fully internally consistent universe; aside from a few hiccups here and there. Trek has always been very inconsistent with small details, he has no problem forgetting or rewriting previous canon elements if those elements interfere with the story they're trying to tell at the time and episode is made

The same people who are being trusted with this are the ones who told Doug Drexler that "no one will even notice" (direct quote" from a conversation with me by DM) the copypasta Starfleet from Picard season one. It's not that they are incompetent, it's that they just don't give a frak.
And yet, the series was popular with Trek fans.

Sweet mysteries of life, eh?

Who thought red on red would be a great idea?! XD
Modern science fiction really doesn’t seem to get rank devices for some odd reason. NuBSG had the same problem. When they make it hard to see what someone’s grade is, you don’t know who would be considered above you in the chain of command, or below, until your right on top of them staring closely at the rank insignia. This is definitely not practical. IRL, it’s to determine who salutes to whom first (and all those other annoying medieval habits). The command gold on gold has enough contrast to make it out relatively quick. Haven’t seen the blue, but yeah, the red on red is ridiculous.

I have found that since the premier of The Motion Picture, it's best to just go along for the ride and not get all twitter-pated over the visual changes in the different Trek outings.
We've seen more than enough hints and clues to be able to squeeze it all together properly in our own head-canons' if we so choose.

Personally, I have always enjoyed fiddling with all the differences to make them fit together in a somewhat logical whole.
Also, I really prefer to enjoy my Entertainment choices, rather than dissect it to death because it's not being done to my perceived personal specifications.
I'm not looking for the Trek creative folks to make perfect episodes/movies, I'm just happy They are still willing to do it after 50+ years.

Among the talk about who's going to be cast this season, do we know whether Sarek & Amanda might possibly make a return to any extent, maybe just an appearance or two? In early DSC I grew quite fond of them, and would love for them to make an appearance, even if just to embarrass Spock on his date. ;)
