I liked Season 1, until they ruined Lorca and wasted the Mirror Universe all on one fell swoop.

DSC writing has a habit of screwing up more than one thing at once.

When they ruined Lorca I knew I was pretty much done with the show. Wasting four eps in the mirror universe and then having that happen

Why would a show in the 25th century be expected to mention wars that happen primarily in the 31st? They certainly could, said wars being about time travel, but any small minority insisting they should could be easily ignored...or at least would be by me.

    Because...they're all connected!

***kudos to anyone who gets the reference and Trek connection.

I think I know the quote's origin, but not the Trek connection....

I'm sure you'll recall it. It's a pretty deep reference.

The Spock family stuff has been the very best part of Discovery.

Couldn't the same be said about Enterprise? They could have just created a show set after DS9 and Voyager and then they wouldn't have had all those problems with trying to make the technology be palatable for 21st century viewers, yet attempt to make it seem more primitive than TOS, or the problems with shoehorning-in "fan favourite" species such as the Klingons, Ferengi and Borg, and it would have also spared us that whole "Temporal Cold War" nonsense.

I would have been ok with a version that involved Spock taking her on as a daughter; the young male dyslexic Vulcan being her adopted brother, Spock's biological son, and part of the drama would involve Spock's disappearance.... Set in the 25th....

at least Enterprise had a reason for the setting, showing the early days of interstellar exploration, even if that idea was often cast aside in favor of stories that could have been set in any later timeframe.

Discovery’s only reason to be a prequel in season 1 was to have MB as the adoptive daughter of sarek, a choice that I never found particularly interesting or well realized. As Phoenix219 points out, they could have set the series after Voy and replaced Sarek with Spock (or Tuvok or, heavens forbid, a new character) and it would have worked the same.

Or even Tuvix from a parallel universe dropped into events after Voyager.......

Yes but ENT at least tries to look in universe old and didn't add new tech jump drives and turn starships into pew pew fighter carriers. I agree with the adding of things like Ferengi, Borg and Soong too.
Personally I didn't like ENT bar the odd episode same as DIS and a lot of the reason was the prequel (or origin story) thing which I tend to hate it in any show

ENT had a constructive reason to exist 110 years before Kirk. DSC didn't have a constructive reason to be set 10 years before Kirk except to ride the gravy train of the Kelvin Timeline films and use legacy characters because "THE J.J. MOVIES WORKED" and "PEOPLE WANT TO SEE MORE OF THIS ERA EVEN IF WE RADICALLY CHANGE HOW IT LOOKS." Their prerogative and Bryan Fuller had the right to set it when he did and establish his parameters for how the series looked and felt, but there was no pressing reason for another prequel series and this close to TOS.

Sadly. At least in the second season it was.

That and Pike. And some of the Pike stuff was magnificent.

    What's wrong with Soong?

Agreed with the awful and unnecessary Ferengi episode, the Borg one at least was well built basing it on First Contact and pretty exciting.

I didn't like most of Ent and Dis either, but being prequels had nothing to do with it for me.

The depth and texture added to the Sarak family dynamic in Discovery is the best things to happen to the Spock character since the Genesis Wave.

There are just too many Soongs I am sick of seeing Spinner play Soongs. I am surprised Data's "mother" wasn't Brent in drag and Daj/Soji too

I will definitely watch an all-Spiner edit of Picard season one:lol:
