Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

A lot more legacy characters than I thought, but, that's fantastic none the less. I said ages ago when this show was announced that I don't see why we couldn't see some of the TOS characters appear on SNW EVENTUALLY, but, in lower-ranking positions. It's happening a lot earlier than I thought it would.

This is paralleling the first Abrams Trek film also having Uhura join the Enterprise under Pike as a cadet.

Booker Bradshaw was in his thirties(?) when TOS was in production so I'm thinking the new actor could easily fit in since he looks about 30?
Age of actors doesn't really mean anything in Star Trek shows though now. The guy they cast as Bruce Maddox recently was in his 50s, when canonically even if Maddox was a 25 year old prodigy to turn down Data's Starfleet Academy application, the actor should have been at least 83.

We don't know much about Uhura and Chapel's backstories. If anything, this is paralleling the first Abrams Trek film also having Uhura join the Enterprise under Pike as a cadet.
Well I don't recall Uhura, Chapel, or M'Benga doing much of anything or even being around when Pike was in a bad way in the Menagerie. Admittedly nothing outright contradicts their serving under him before but it's still odd. Maybe they were helping Spock take Pike to Talos in their own way offscreen or something.

They’ve done Discovery. We just got a release date there
Sorry if I wasn't clear. Since Discovery is the next live action show to air on Paramount Plus, it doesn't make a lot of sense for them to start a trailer yet for SNW. They will want to focus more on Discovery. Heck and that assume's SNW would be next in the line up and not Picard.

And my interest in this just went down.

They're clearly pandering and trying to shove the 'nostalgia card' at people with this group of characters, and it's sad and disappointing.

DSC will remain the only new Star Trek content I care about, and it didn't have to be that way.

* sigh *

I also don't remember seeing Tuvok in Star Trek VI, but, I learned to live with that.

The Menagerie connects directly to The Cage, events which Uhura and Chapel had nothing to do with, but Spock did. Pike contacted Spock directly. He'd have no reason to contact Uhura and Nurse Chapel just because they served under him in the years since.

Whaat? Amazon still says it's not out yet in America. What country got it first?
Europe. I don't know which countries in Europe.

Though the name was added to Memory-Beta in August, so there must have been a preview page or something with it on it.

Going over the tiny segments with them in uniform, I have come to the realization I am not that big of fan of the medical uniform used by Chapel and M'Benga.

I wonder if they will have multiple uniforms.

I love the Uhura bit, the tiny bit of blurred Mount, looks like he's about to doze off.

nice little Homage. also if SNW takes place in 2258 (literally right after the Discovery 2 finale) then in two different realities Pike is captain at the same time.

By the way to we have a solid idea of when this show is set versus the start of TOS?

I think shortly after the end of season two of Discovery, which I think was...2257? I'm pretty sure it was stated at one point that Pike getting a glimpse of his future would factor into the show.

I'm really liking the interior of the Enterprise from what we can see. The bridge layout is just the one on Discovery right? But the white evokes the KT Enterprise, STIII Excelsior, and STIV Enterprise bridges. Very clean!

Looks alright. Still a bit JJVerse like. I’m more interested what the exterior looks like

Judging by the way Anson was gushing about the captain's quarters, I'm going to guess it's going to be quite a bit more luxurious than the simple room with a tv and a bed too small for Jeffrey Hunter that we saw in 'The Cage'.
