Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Someone on the show is obsessed with the uniforms being asymmetrical for some reason. :)
I've notice some asymmetry in TNG costuming, usually civilians and aliens. And of course the off center A shape on the Starfleet uniforms.

TOS costumes: the delta symbol's shape and location; the ladies' necklines and miniskirts; Kirk's wraparound tunic...

And Deanna's green dress, and basically every Starfleet uniform ever.

Perhaps my smiley should have been a winking one.

Number One: Captain, ever since you ordered the end of all holograms on the Enterprise, crewmembers who used the holographic technology during free time hours to, uh, deal with hormones have become agitated. They have resorted to using the monitor screens in their quarters, but this has been met with dismay. An anonymous complaint asked, "What is this, the twenty first century?!"

Pike: They should have dealt with such things a long time ago. What are we running here, a cadet ship, Number One? I'm going to order Dr. Boyce to inject all crew with hormone suppressants. Everyone around here should be more like Spock, he does not get distracted by such things.

Number One: That's only because his Pon Farr hasn't come around yet. You think that being half human would make it come sooner not later, but anyway--There are rumors that if you do not restore the holograms, the crew will mutiny and take the ship to Talos IV for a permanent illusion vacation.

Pike: I'll just advise Starfleet Command to make traveling to Talos IV punishable by death. By the way Number One, I remember something the Keeper said on Talos IV. Unauthorized use of someone's likeness for holographic purposes is a Federation crime. Also, we should ensure this law isn't forgotten by lonely Starfleet engineers a hundred years from now.

Number One: Ok, that last sentence was just unusually way too specific.

Pike: Mr. Tyler, search all of Number One's computer activity during her time on the Enterprise. Yes, all of them! Any evidence of illegal holographic use, put her in the brig.

Jose Tyler: Yes sir!

Number One: You do know that your mass deactivation of holograms will only make the crew and captain who inherit this ship more compromised and romantically distracted by every humanoid lifeform they encounter right? As in wanting to romance every female he meets on an away mission?! It's detrimental to Starfleet's priorities in the long run!

Pike: Not my problem.

Jose Tyler: It didn't take long to find, sir. Whoa, look at the image files from Number One's "private browsing". I never knew you were so muscular under that uniform sir!

Pike: That does it. Take Number One into the brig!! No hamburgers for her brig meals either.

Number One: What?! That's not even you, that's Black Bolt from the 21st century Earth show 'Inhumans'!

Pike: Hail Hydra!

Number One: Huh? Why are you hailing a hydra?

Pike: Wow, and pretending to be a Marvel fan to cover up your crimes too. You should be beamed into space for that. I mean, only a really hardcore Marvel fan would even watch 'Inhumans'. Off to the brig with you.

(Number One plots revenge. Only years later does Pike put together the circumstances of his delta radiation accident, but Number One ensured he'd only be able to say "Yes" or "No" and never reveal the truth)

I would like to see new 2260’s era Starfleet vessels that conform more to the TOS/TAS aesthetic. As much as I hate to say this, Axanar at least had a better grasp of this with their ship designs.

Honestly I'd be fine if they ignored that. We rarely saw any non-Constitution Starfleet ships in TOS anyway. Visual continuity is already out of whack. Pike's bridge flipped back and forth from Q&A to the Cage to Discovery again. I just pretend the Cage/WNMHGB bridge was a temporary bridge module for special events (Rigel VII incident/going past the galactic barrier) and the sweaters seen in those episodes were dress uniforms. Disco's Enterprise bridge and uniforms are the Canon look for the 2250s and early 2260s.

As long as they don't overlap TOS' timeframe of late 2266, the new show can look however it wants. Purists can just pretend Kirk refit the ship to a retro look once he took command, and the uniforms changed again.
