Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

It actually makes sense if you realize that her dad in the Prime universe was also possibly Section 31 and thus she adapted her father's ruthlessness and viciousness. Unlike in the Kelvin Timeline, she may not have had a reason to turn against him in the Prime timeline.
I think a better twist would be if she were naively developing the Genesis device for her stated reasons, but her dad intending to take it for Section 31 for the exact same reason the Klingons wanted it. Hence their justified fear about Starfleet's intentions.

that would be nice especially if it completely retcons TOS or at least most of it

Who cares? So many more people watched and will watch TOS in the future than any modern Trek show that it's trivial.

Star Trek fans watch current Trek. Pretty much no one else who has a real choice. I mean, fans do take hostages.

Even with that all being true, someone like Marcus probably wouldn't care. He wasn't exactly well balanced to begin with if his Kelvin Timeline version is any indication.

There are so many assumptions and hypotheticals here that no answer is worthwhile.

Watching the Christopher clip reminded me how much I liked Shatner in the first thirty or forty episodes of Trek.

I don't know. Coming right out of the gate with that much awesome, they're setting the bar very high very early. They definitely have their work cut out for them trying to match the expectations such a move would create.

Not to mention that level of awesomeness would be like the two Lazuruses (Lazuri?) coming together in "The Alternative Factor"

Annihilation Jim. Total, complete, absolute annihilation.

Hmm...I was on the whole Marcus isn't Section 31 in Prime but this is interesting to me.

Agreed - I like this idea a lot.

I had always said that, despite the Prime and Kelvin timelines being separate, there's no reason why we can't see another version of Kelvin timeline events take place in the prime universe. Show me the prime universe version of the USS Kelvin!

And we don't have to be mad at them reimagining it since everything looks different in Disco/SNW anyway!

Agreed - and this might be a little controversial, but, I'll risk it. Everything about the ship, the Kelvin, the interior, uniforms, the design of the ship itself, at least TO ME looked like an advancement of Enterprise. The ship looks like it comes from an era not too far removed from the NX-01. It just doesn't yet have the clean and shiny look that we see on Pike's Enterprise and Discovery.

So even though this portion may be the start of the alternate reality, to me, it still looks like it fits.

Nothing wrong with any of those bridges a flip of the light switch couldn't fix. LET THERE BE LIGHT! on the bridge.

And forgive my sidetracking, but, the Kelvin we see in 2009; short of its destruction, that is what the Kelvin should look like in both timelines, is it not? It's not until after this event that the timelines start to deviate and things look different. I feel like that's not clear.
