Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I think the USS The Next Generation already proved ship names like that rarely work.

My personal favorite ship.

Well, for a story Idea, stand alone episode, would be Great with one centering on Yeoman Colt, and her(he/it/slithern.. whatever) day.. Something like that B5 episode focusing on the maintenence characters.. Good comedy episode!

Well, I love Mr Combs, but as the Dr? nah.. Maybe as Shran? ( never said how long Andorians live.. maybe 200 years is the normal, and we humans are just short lived?) Fleet Admiral Shran? :)
As for cast..
Doens't have to be Dr Boyce.. no cannon of him being there after the Cage, and Mark Piper on WNMHGB .. so could be anybody/thing as chief CMO Fun would be a Tellerite Doctor! Ohh. Female Tellerite! Some good insults going there! Woo!
CMO - Tellerite
Engineer - Andorian
Therapist - Denobulan, Deltan?
Communications - Catian (Mress species)
Get a xindi in there!
and a Bynar,
Oh, and a Hermat! that would lead to some interesting stories and give you the LGBTQ+ stories as well.

If we're looking at Trek alums for the role (although I don't know why this would be necessary), Marc Alaimo might do. He's age appropriate for the role and could probably use the work. After having seen the DS9 documentary last year, he seemed to have taken a rather large brunt of fan-rage over his character's fictional behavior and didn't seem to be treated very well in general, which is really inexcusably sad.

If I was going to cast Jeffrey Combs as a TOS character, it'd be Samuel T. Cogley.

Not that I think they should.

Ugh, seriously? That is so disappointing. And stupid. What is wrong with people?

I could see Combs as Cogley. Though he has done such a great job playing aliens I also wouldn't mind seeing him play a Romulan ,Klingons, Vulcan or Carddisian. Maybe even as Captain April. If they do somehow bring Colt or Tyler back it should be as a guest spot or to kill them off in action scene early on. Not big fan of Colt being alien just because it seems like a slap to canon. Because then you got to explain it and that sounds like getting into fan fiction territory.

I am curious how we will get a Riker and Troi cameo on the show. Frakes in particular must be in all Trek shows from now on or else it doesn't get a official seal of approval of fandom. Maybe he needed to learn some captain lessons from Pike on the holodeck in order to get back in the grove before he takes off to help Picard in "Picard" last season and we get a valentine to the Picard show.

I think the rumours (might be more than just rumours) of him sexually harassing Nana Visitor might have something to do with it.

If we're naming Sci-fi actors for Boyce, David Bradley seems more right type. Although, he's too old.

I'd rather they cast a woman of color as the doctor and leave Boyce as Pike's deceased or retired confidant that can be flashed back to if the need arises.

The cast is white enough without adding an old white guy.

Maybe they can steal the Orville's doctor ;)

To me this isn't a issue because Boyce would I think be a small but pivotal character and we have like 4 other spots for new characters. I think we know going in that Pike, Number One and Spock are basically your big 3. Everyone else would be about equal in terms of importance and Boyce would also be like that. Just because he is a name doesn't mean he would be a core character. I do hope these other characters get more to do than Scotty,Sulu, Uhura and Chekov did but I do like the idea of having another Trio like TOS did at the top.

First I've heard of that one. If true, there may be some rationale behind it, but also there should be proper justice done via due process and not by the will of the mob. The current state of affairs now allows a legitimate Spacey/Cosby/Weinstein treatment to be given in the courts and, if found guilty, send him to jail, as is proper. Otherwise, leave him be.

My pick for Cogley? Eric Peterson (Oscar on Corner Gas).

I thought he died a few years ago and it was someone impersonating him on the cartoon?

Redundant - by their nature, rumours "might be more than just rumours." What you're saying is that you have no fact to hang this speculation on.

When you're done with your faux outrage maybe you'll notice it's not redundant to my point, as I was offering a possible explanation behind some of the hate for the actor.
