I think the USS The Next Generation already proved ship names like that rarely work.Ok, maybe it's about a ship named the USS Strange New Worlds.
I see no real reason Boyce has to be the doctor. If you read Roddenberry's original pitch document it's very obvious that he was intended to have pretty much the same personality as McCoy. So what's the point when that character has already been done? I'd rather see someone brand new, preferably an alien.
Philip Boyce, a common alien name.Boyce can be an alien. He's never identified as human in the episode. They just need to update his makeup.
That's inappropriate, so there's no reason another officer should imitate it.Kirk used his quarters. I hope they keep with that.
Ready rooms make more sense based on how modern day ships work, if you view the ready room as being the captain's at-sea cabin.Kirk used his quarters. I hope they keep with that.

In Disco Such Sweet Sorrow they mentioned Culber was offered a transfer to the Enterprise which he accepted but ended up backing out of at the last minute to go into the future. My interpretation of that was that Boyce had left and the Enterprise had a CMO vacancy.

What about J.M. Colt? Here is my cast!
1 Pike
2 Number One
3 Spock
4 Boyce-John Slattery
5 Chief Engineer=Colby Minifie=Nerdy Chief Engineer with a secret.
6 pilot=Aisha Hinds=Can even call her Darwin and say she is this universe version of her Kelvinverse character= shy but professional.
7 Second Doctor and future Boyce replacement in Donna Lynn Champlin. Conservative type who still keeps getting into funny situations. Best friends with Hinds character.
8 Captain's Yeoman in Carlos Valdes=Learning the ropes about being in Starfleet. Goal of being a Captain someday. Is also gay and married to a fellow Yeoman and we would actually see the ships Yeoman sometimes interacting with each other and main crew to sort of offer another non-traditional Starfleet perspective on episodes.

She's the spiky faced blueshirt alien seen on the Enterprise already, according to the credits. What about J.M. Colt?
