Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I found the original tweet implying that John Hoyt and Jeffrey Combs look alike and therefore Comb's should play the character kinda funny considering they look absolutely nothing alike. Personally I think the criterion for getting the role should be based on the actor's ability to pour hard liquor. In that case my vote goes to Michael Hogan. He's the right age and we know he can pour space whiskey, warm martini's should be no problem.

They're completely uninterested in bringing back fan favorite actors and characters. They want to move forward with the story, not dredge up the past, tired plotlines. Now let's go back to discussing the latest prequel series featuring a crew on a ship that was developed 56 years ago.

I see no real reason Boyce has to be the doctor. If you read Roddenberry's original pitch document it's very obvious that he was intended to have pretty much the same personality as McCoy. So what's the point when that character has already been done? I'd rather see someone brand new, preferably an alien.

Boyce can be an alien. He's never identified as human in the episode. They just need to update his makeup.

Well, he could be an alien. Or, he could be not on the show.

I vote for him not being on the show. The doctor ought to be a woman.

There's also no reason that Alien Colt needs to be a regular.

As someone suggested, Jose Ortega might be a good character to add from the POV of some cast diversity. Lieutenant Amin, who's already appeared, likewise.

In Disco Such Sweet Sorrow they mentioned Culber was offered a transfer to the Enterprise which he accepted but ended up backing out of at the last minute to go into the future. My interpretation of that was that Boyce had left and the Enterprise had a CMO vacancy.
Kirk used his quarters. I hope they keep with that.
Ready rooms make more sense based on how modern day ships work, if you view the ready room as being the captain's at-sea cabin.

This is the future - things should work the way they worked fifty years ago!!

Here is my cast!

1 Pike
2 Number One
3 Spock
4 Boyce-John Slattery
5 Chief Engineer=Colby Minifie=Nerdy Chief Engineer with a secret.
6 pilot=Aisha Hinds=Can even call her Darwin and say she is this universe version of her Kelvinverse character= shy but professional.
7 Second Doctor and future Boyce replacement in Donna Lynn Champlin. Conservative type who still keeps getting into funny situations. Best friends with Hinds character.
8 Captain's Yeoman in Carlos Valdes=Learning the ropes about being in Starfleet. Goal of being a Captain someday. Is also gay and married to a fellow Yeoman and we would actually see the ships Yeoman sometimes interacting with each other and main crew to sort of offer another non-traditional Starfleet perspective on episodes.

What about J.M. Colt?

I think Yeomen though would allow us to see stuff happening from people other than bridge officers and senior officers. They in away sort of like the work staff of the ship. Fetching coffee and cleaning up messes I am guessing. Sort of a metaphor for working class people.

Jason

If yeomen return to Star Trek, their role should be the same as in the US Navy: "an enlisted service member within the United States Navy that performs administrative and clerical work under their primary role and assignment." Portraying yeomen exclusively as young women whose only job is to bring coffee and PADDs to the captain should be avoided.
