Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Confirmed.

Section31 was supposed to be the next series in production but there has been no news of that and now this. Does this mean S31 is canceled or just delayed?

I won’t shed any tears if they give up on that series. I prefer the Pike series.
God i hope so

I mean, I’m sure the ship will start off as the Discoprise. But as the series goes, it would only make sense for the ship to begin to resemble the Enterprise as it was in TOS. Up until the finale when Pike hands Kirk the keys and it looks like it should.

it’s easier to explain away why it looks like it does in the Disco-verse than to retcon out 50+ years across every subsequent series except Voyager.
Exactly. I would even be happy with a very brief glimpse across even just part of the bridge (like panning over in the background) that shows the hardcore fans who analyze screencaps and replay scenes in slo-mo that they transition to the TOS designs. Casual viewers don't even have to notice.

Dude. The 1701 is now how we’ve seen it in both DIS and PIC. The TOS version is gone, and quite rightly so, given that was over 50 years ago. I don’t understand why people, such as yourself, struggle with this concept?
Even Gene Roddenberry redesigned the thing the first chance he got (TMP).
Don't forget 1992, 1996, and 2005.
TMP was set years later.

I wrote earlier that I wanted Cage technology instead of Discovery technology. What I meant is no spore drive, holographic communication, or other such advances. I don't expect a replica of The Cage Enterprise or Styrofoam rocks. I want a somewhat optimistic tone, not early TNG uptopia or another dystopian show. They are currently a dime a dozen. Also, please no Section 31 on Strange New Worlds. Section 31 was interesting when introduced in DS9, but every subsequent Trek has used it as a crutch. Weren't they supposed to be hidden and possibly be myth?
The one thing they can get rid of is the fax machine XD
Even the gumdrop buttons can be shown to be advanced holographic interfaces that can be operated from multiple sides, twisted and pulled, so they're not just buttons as we know them.
And your name makes me hungry, reminds me of my favorite meal from a restaurant I haven't visited in ~15 years...

We don't know what the future will look like, but it always loks about like where we are "now."

TOS computers were bulky boxes blinky lights and the brdige had all sorts of status lights blinking red yellow or green. How Mission Control!

nu-Trek, no matter how you dismiss the idea, was clearly Apple Store.

now-Trek: Why so dark? Dark websites and night mose are THE aesthetic for 2020 (I'm redesigning one, and that is what design sites are telling me.

So things have to look JUST-beyond contemporary, I deduce.

But the TOS Ent -- how lovely, and looked -- to my eyes -- not 60s at all. When ENT portrayed her in the 200s, saw no need to change the look. It needs to look pre-refit, doesn't it? Eh, what's done is done, but they certainly could have made her exterior the same, though lit differently for current aesthetics. Probly changed the 60s military typeface on the hull. Oh, well, I'll take what I get.

edit: a mantra I learned, which a former student said changed his life: "I release the need to determine how things should be."

I don't remember, were there named officers on the Enterprise Bridge during Discovery? I wondering if the various extras are crossing their fingers hoping to return...

What I meant is no spore drive, holographic communication,
It should be damn obvious neither of those would be on this show. Spore drive was experimental and only in use on Disco and USS Glenn. Glenn was destroyed, Disco left to the future, after which Starfleet classified the spore drive top secret with it treasonous to speak of. Also, Disco made it clear spore drive was incompatible with the Constitution class anyway. And Disco season 2 made it a plot point that the holographic communicators were removed from the Enterprise because Pike didn't like them.

So you're making a fuss about not wanting something on this show which wouldn't have been there anyway.

Would they move Ash Tyler over to this show?

I hope not!

We also understand, having spoken to another contact, that the Section 31 series has been put on hold to allow for the development of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and to allow for Michelle Yeoh to have an ongoing role in Star Trek: Discovery for the foreseeable future.

I don't know if this site is trustworthy though.

That sounds good! Now they just have to deliver on their words.

Your taking my post a bit too literally. Everything you mentioned I already know. The Enterprise might not have holographic communications, but other ships may have it, or the showrunner might decide otherwise. I just hope the new show is good and faithful to The Cage era. They don't need to reinvent the wheel.

that article also claims they are casting for Dr Boyce, Uhura and maybe even Kirk.

Kirk? How's that possible? He and Pike don't meet until Kirk takes over command of the Enterprise. So unless it's for the series finale, I don't see how Kirk could possibly turn up.

Fake? but fun

I thought this looked somewhat familiar. From ten years ago:

Works better without a phaser rifle, because those don't convey a sense of exploration.

Also, happy to hear about this show. Like others I thought it was a waste to get rid of all the wonderful assets they created for the Enterprise and her crew.

I do hope they make some small tweaks to the ship, most notably.....reign that beveled saucer edge in some! There is no way people can stand on a flat surface and look out those windows! LOL! (And get rid of the refit style engine pylons.) But otherwise, it's the AA Era and I'm fine with the overall look of the ship and aesthetic of the show.

However when it comes to the FX shots, I want them to feature far more Discovery type closeup, zoom in's and out's rather than Picards boring as shit old style ship cinematography: I'm tired of the same old flyby's. We've seen that shit through 27 seasons of Star Trek and I much prefer the more cinematic approach of Discovery and knowing where we are on the ship. YMMV of course.

The Kirk part comes from this site:

No idea how trustworthy they are either.

^ it says the Kirk actor is son of Jenny Lumet who is a writer producer for the series and is Kurtzman’s writing partner. Nepotism!!!

Soooo... theoretically... we could have Scotty and Sulu in the show (they both appeared in "Where no man has gone before") or they said in "The Menagerie" that they didn't know Pike?

They'll ignore anything if they think the story they want to tell is worth it. And Kirk and Uhura on the Enterprise under Pike alongside Spock worked brilliantly in 2009. They'd be stupid to let one line stop them from more of that.

EDIT: The line is...

MENDEZ: You ever met Chris Pike?
KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain.

Have Pike be promoted to Fleet Captain the day Kirk joins the crew, and sorted:cool:

KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain. Then I was transferred to his ship on a temporary basis, where we fought Tholians, discovered that wormhole to the Andromeda Galaxy that mysteriously vanished, negotiated a peace treaty with the Vendorians, fought that epic battle when Section 31 went rogue and tried to destroy Jupiter Station, and we were kidnapped together and put on trial by Klingon rebels. Then I was upgraded to a permanent crew position, where me and Mr. Spock made first contact with the Betazoids...
