If simple tears in eyes are eligible, then I cried exactly twice as well:

It did hit me a couple times too, right, about eight inches under my left armpit if I remember correctly.

Well, it was nearly tear-jerking for many, seeing that they were definitely going to make it seem like Saru was going to pass on, only for this huge change to happen to him. Definitely a heart-wrenching scene with a twist.

There was a lot to like in this episode, that much is certain.

Unfortunately, absolutely no member of the crew referred to the sphere as Mr. Shadow, nor did any of them start bleeding barbecue sauce when it was 'speaking' to them. :sigh:

Nope, I cried a couple of times. For some reason the dying sphere's final moments and last act of gratitude really got to me, and then the final scene in Saru's quarters. Special mention also goes to the Space Oddity moment. I need to rewatch the episode, because I have a feeling that might become my favourite scene of the season so far.

My 11 year old son did, too. He was wiping his cheeks during the last scene between Saru and Michael. He turned to me and cried out in a plaintive tone: "Noooo! Saaaarruuuuuu!" It was adorable. (He was like this when Han died in SW:TFA)

Speaking of that (the scene, not your son's reaction ;)), I 100% fully expected -- as did most people, I'm sure -- Saru to somehow pull through; that wasn't my worry. What I was worried about was how they were going to do it. I half worried that it would be a Monty Python-like "Well...I got better" type of thing, or a deus ex machina resolution.

However, I was relieved that they found a non-cheesy way to handle his remarkable recovery, and it also fit nicely into Saru's overall story.

The guy on the left has an extreme cowlick. Someone should've said something. Please tell me that wasn't an intentional hair style.

There were times I actually thought they were going to kill off Saru, though usually when they kill off someone major, the preview would often mention that someone is going to kick the bucket.

I must say, I wonder what's next for Saru? That's going to be a good question going forward; he's definitely one of the more interesting characters on DSC.

I also have to wonder about the "May" entity - are they the reason why Starfleet ditched the spore drive? Or is there some other reason that they did it?

I think we're about to get the answer to that spore drive question.

Agreed, that definitely seems likely. I thought that when I first heard about the spore driving being destructive to "May's" kind.

So, I was re-watching the premiere with my parents this weekend and realized that Lt. Commander Nahn is an Engineer. What's the over/under on her eventually staying on as Chief Engineer? I guess that I like her character design and it's nice to see her character still having scenes/lines in the show. Argh, I probably jinxed myself and she'll be a casualty of the spore-craftian weirdness that's likely coming in the next episode.
