I'm suspecting that Reno will be the chief engineer.
Looking back it's kinda weird that Nhan got re-introduced in this episode only to have nothing more to do. I think she had a line or two in the UT malfunction scene, but other than that I don't know why they brought her back from the Enterprise. (Or was she on Discovery all the time since “Brother”?) Someone speculated that she's working for Section 31, which wouldn't surprise me. Could be an explanation for why the writers brought her back.
That was my thought too but she mentioned the Chief Engineer in this episode so she isn't at the moment - I'm guessing she'd need a promotion to do that anyway and this show has enough commanders... It's possible they are keeping her that little bit more junior to act as an occasional foil for Stamets.I'm suspecting that Reno will be the chief engineer.
I hate the idea that Pike and Nhan (who are obviously not permanent members of the crew - well, at least Pike isn't) have to wear the DSC uniforms.
I mean, I understand why they wear the DSC unis - so they don't stick out like a sore thumb - it's just that I like the TOS uniforms better dammit!![]()

Oh I thought she was a lieutenant. I can't see those badges all that well.Reno is already a full Commander.
Stamets is a mushroom scientist, not an engineer - there was a readable on screen graphic in season 1 which said he was Chief Engineer but the producers have said this was a mistake.I always thought Stamets was Chief, but obviously from Reno's comment in ep 4 he's not.

According to a recent interview it was originally actually meant to be a Torpedo Room, but was converted to the Spore room after the fact.Correct me if I'm wrong, but this episode pretty much confirmed that the "engineering" set we've been seeing is in fact Discovery's main engineering, didn't it?

From what I've read so far, it's not Main Engineering, but sits directly alongside it.
The large red glowey thing in the background is apparently supposed to be part of the main engine core.

It's not most people just one rather quirky woman.I am okay with them using or referencing music of the past fifty or so years, even though I know it is not realistic. Most people nowadays do not listen to what was popular 300 years ago,
As for her being an Engineer, I missed that. Will have to re-watch ep 1 again.
I'll have to rewatch the episode, but isn't there a line where it's mentioned that the electrical discharge has cut the spore room off from main engineering?Correct me if I'm wrong, but this episode pretty much confirmed that the "engineering" set we've been seeing is in fact Discovery's main engineering, didn't it?
They call it the warp core. The large red glowey thing in the background, is apparently supposed to be part of the main engine (WARP?) core though.
