Thing is - New Eden is neither a natural, nor a stable society.

By all accounts, this current society is doomed to die out anyway - currently they live in a post-nuclear age society, still leeching off from the stuff brought back from Earth. Their current religious rule only works as a transitional rule - if the population grows, they'll have to form completely new, different ways of organizing themselves. They lack modern factories, fabric, materials they all have currently in use - I didn't saw any coal or iron mines, nor domesticated animals. They'd pretty soon degrade to a stone-age era society witout artificial help. And if they continue to live off from their 21st century knowledge - that doesn't count as an "own" society either. All of that completely ignoring things like genetic diversity.

Like the Ba'Ku - the Prime Directive doesn't apply in this case. But that doesn't mean you can just haul them off the planet carelessly either.

Personally, I would advocate for carefully re-establishing contact wit humanity - and then re-settle them to a human colony planet, where they could individually decide to leave "New" New Eden, or stay in their society, but now contact to the rest of Earth.

That being said - this is probably something that needs to be done in a few hundred years in the future, considering how far they are away (and only the Discovery with the spore drive can reach them) - and if, by that time, they truly have forgotten Earth and reverted to a middle-age society, the situation would be completely different again.

Less than 200 people squeezed into a church, had turned into 10,000 people spread across dozens of villages, 200 years later.

Post apocalyptic and medieval are similar, but they got a lot more learning to hunker down on until they figure out medieval technology properly. A traveling saleswoman was handing out cheat sheets for 19th century technology to the kids from The Walking dead last year. Aquaducts, windmills, shoes, smelting, and a simple surgery guide for idiots. The people of New Eden off in the provinces are probably more reliant on what they have made, because that's all they have.

Strong '6'/ Soft '7'.

I liked this one. The show definitely seems stronger than season one. Anson Mount was a solid addition to the cast. Though I'm leery of the Klingon-centric "Point of Light".

Based on the views you stated on numerous occasions, skip it.

Nah it made sense. And I don't think DSC is the first Star Trek series to do that with other human cultures.

"Nah" is not an effective counterargument. The Prime Directive itself evolved a bit over the course of Trek history before settling into what we think of it today.

And in no way would that provide to a human colony that was only created by an unauthorized alien abduction that was done without the knowledge and consent of the initial inhabitants. The colony only exists because a crime was committed. It is a moral imperative for the rest of humanity to inform them what happened and offer them a choice for how they would like to proceed.

Best episode of Star Trek since The Inner Light. Beautiful. Slow to get going, but the payoff was the best in Star Trek history. 10 out of 10. Five stars.

If the people who were originally taken away were still there, I might agree.

However, the crime you say that was committed was NOT committed against these particular people. These people are neither from Earth nor were they abducted, but are native born to Terralysium, and have created -- and still developing -- their own unique culture there that has differences to Earth culture.

So it isn't completely ridiculous to interpret General Order One the way Pike chose to.

The Prime Directive was written to prevent the natural development of other species and cultures.

There is nothing at all that is "natural" about the development of those people. Their creation was the result of a criminal act done without the consent or participation of the original inhabitants. They are morally entitled to the truth about the origins and the reality of their situation.

We've seen numerous episodes where Starfleet characters have directly intervened with primitive cultures as a corrective measure to interference that has already happened to them.

And it's still wrong.

Hearings on a star ship Captain's behaviour are very rarely swift and immediate, because star ships do not cling to the home world.

If Pike is going to get kicked out of Starfleet for what he did this week, it may not happen for another 5 years, or longer.
