a few thoughts after a second watching last night:

-does anyone remember T'Pol running in ANIS? ;)

-I like how they gave Michael a set of Vulcan eyebrows in the scene with Amanda and Sarek (younger Michael wearing the Vulcan robe)

-I can easily see Michael and Saru mutinying against Lorca at the end of the season (no more Klingon war next season from what I hear) and Lorca removed. But man oh man -- Jason Isaacs runs rings around them both in the acting/magnetism department. Are they sure they wanna get rid of the character completely?!

-DIS is now number one in both overall and digitals, btw

ANIS?

Where are they filming, btw? (I'm lazy!) But I'm sure they have enough money for location shoots outside of Vancouver area forrests and quarries, trying to avoid militant pot farmers or the magical land of Toronto or... wherever they are. They went to Jordan for one scene, didn't they?

If you mean women got command experience on Kirk's Enterprise. I agree. If you mean women got "command experience" under Kirk on the Enterprise. I totally disagree. Other than Rand there wasn't even a hint of that. And that was mostly because of "The Enemy Within".

Uhura took phone messages for the men while they were off doing Important Things. I suppose there was Nurse Chapel, but she was more of a Naughty Nurse than a medical professional. The females on the ship were assigned to wear the shortest of short skirts and bring Kirk his coffee, where he may then choose to sleaze onto them. His leering and stalking of the young Lieutenant at the end of Mirror, Mirror is a particularly uncomfortable. After that crewman's fiance is killed in Balance of Terror, he holds her in a rather predatory embrace. That was pretty uncomfortable too. Probably because all these women are half his age.

So yeah, I tend to think dispatching young girls to Kirk's Enterprise was not in their interests. I am always amazed that people categorise TOS as being a bastion of female empowerment. The females were objects in a sex pest's lair.

It's entirely possible that there is a very severe short-term shortage. The one data point we have is that they lost 8000 or so. That might create a severe shortage in the short run. So, they move cadets onto the ships as needed. However, 8000 in the grand scheme of things is huge. So, they can regain that easily enough during peace time.

I don't think we know enough either way to be honest. As you say, we may well get more data.
They lost 8000 at the 'Battle of the Binaries' itself. We have no idea how many more ships/personnel have been lost in the last 7 months of open warfare.

Lorca is definitely making the running so far, they may be watching to see which characters are liked the most by the fans, I cant see them getting rid of him and if they do it will weaken the show..

Um remember - by there time the first episode aired - pretty much all the scripts were written and 10 episodes of principal photography done. By now, I'm pretty sure all the principal photography for Season 1 is done and th remaining uncompleted episodes are in various stages of post production.

So yeah, if Lorca was written to be killed/imprisoned/gone insane, whatever (same with every other character in Season 1) - it's done and 'in the can.' they're not going to suddenly decide "Hey, we need to reshoot X and change this..." - the ship has sailed.

Me too. Hated Picard but liked the premiere. This was 1987 and I remember how "disappointed" some of the reviews were. Things change...
Oh yeah, I hated Picard when I first saw farpoint too, and liked Riker... how things change indeed :D

Perhaps I'll change my mind about Disco characters in a couple of years time too. Though I actually quite like all of them so far. Only Landry who ever really grated me (in both episodes, so I was glad she bit the dust wirh her Darwin Award death in ep4).

True but I cant see them ditching him in the same season as they knocked off Georgiou.

Burnham will have lost two Captains in a very short time and at this rate will be an Admiral by the end of season two and Tilly will be a Commander due to staff shortages, Saru will crap himself thinking he will be next.

If Lorca bites it, that will be Lt. Cmdr. Saru's burden - not Burnhams.
Saru's a Commander on the Discovery not a Lt. Cmdr, that was his old rank on the Shenzou.

Burnham congratulated him on the rank up and I doubt Saru as First Officer would have a lower rank than Landrys was, she was a full Commander as well.

P.S Funnily enough so am I.

He's sleeping with a phaser under his pillow. He has went cuckoo for Cocoa-Puffs, and she knows it.
It took Picard time to recover psychologically from trauma inflicted by the Borg. Why should Lorca be any different?

I didn't get the show after the first two episodes, but I'm starting to really dig where they're going. Give it time.

I was sad to see her go 'cos I'm Indian-American and I wanted so badly to see a character like me on the ship dammit #marysueslive :p
