Sorry, my comment was from a non-American perspective.
Oh, don't worry, there's no problem! I was also speaking from a non-American perspective. In the Country where I live we actually have a lot of people walking around with guns. Most of these guns are illegal though. Here you can get shot for just looking "funny". Even if they have no visual confirmation of a Grip or something that remotely looks like a gun.
So, nope, I would totally
not walk around with that Star Trek Discovery Phaser Rifle, even I find it completely unrealistic.
However, I understand that some people are becoming trigger-happy in the U.S too, like
@Psion said. And I suspect people from other Countries are probably living the same situation too. So I think that even if someone has a silly looking prop weapon, it doesn't matter where you are, they ought to be careful with it because it can lead to trouble.
It isn't a gun culture that has done this, it's a culture of fear that's at fault. The media lives by selling fear, and the majority of the population just buys it up without any skepticism.
I think both
gun culture and the
culture of fear contributed elements to this situation. I think there's a vocal minority of gun owners who refuse to accept the fact that
there is a good chunk of the population that is pre-disposed to be averse to guns. I don't know if it's Cultural or not, but we should all respect each other's limits. And I know most gun owners
do respect those limits.
But there's also a vocal minority on the other side that starts commotions because of imaginary Space Laser Guns. I fail to see how that will help their Gun Control Cause doing that sort of thing. Besides, like you and
@fireproof78 said, in some Regions the local population is just used with it having Guns around. There's nothing to be done about it, we should just respect other people's way of life.
To the Mods and Admins that happen to read this, I'm sorry if I went too much Off-Topic. These are my last words on the Gun subject. Pinky swear.
