I guess my bias is that the same production designers from VOY were on ENT. I never really felt that, visually, the show was all that different from Voyager. It certainly did not give me the impression that anyone took any cues from TOS when designing the show, other than the NX-01's nacelles. It was almost as if the producers wanted to make a prequel to TNG and VOY rather than TOS.

The blinky multicolored indicator lights were on display on the NX-01, but they were more pastel in hue and restrained until they made them more plentiful and brighter in color in Seasons 3 and 4. The shuttlepods and ship also had TOS font on the hulls.

I will certainly check out any new Trek (show or movie) that comes along but I already know I won’t get what “I want” (which is totally fine—not my place to dictate).

If I could get what “I want”, I would want one or more of the following (in no particular order):
  • SNW renewed
  • Year One
  • TOS adjacent (stories in between the TOS episodes and between Turnabout and TMP)
  • Post TMP-pre TWOK
  • Another Kelvinverse movie or two
  • A series set in the Kelvinverse
It’ll be none of those, of course. After all, I don’t own the IP nor should I be in charge of something for which I have zero experience. But the question of the thread does ask what I want next, so…

Never gonna happen, but I’d love a series about a human “internal exchange” Starfleet officer serving on a Ni’Varian starship — exploring new worlds for primarily scientific and survey reasons, but with a somewhat different attitude (or attitudes, since you’ve of course got culturally Vulcan, Romulan and “mixed” Ni’Varians) than we’re used to from the old days. Yes, another not-the-Captain show; and this protagonist would stay not the Captain, but would gradually rise after (let’s say) four seasons to First Officership, becoming the ship’s “Spock”. And it would definitely be a mostly-unserialized, planet-of-the-week show, btw. One possible thread might be the contrast between the old and still nominally revered Vulcan IDIC philosophy, and how it’s often been “more honored in the breach than in the observance” over the centuries.

EDIT: I mean, sure I’d like to see a post-TMP Enterprise show too, but I expect nobody beyond my (old-person) generation cares much about that anymore, understandably enough. I think show ideas about “that missing era I’ve always wanted to see” are even less likely to happen than anything else.

So you would prefer no Star Trek...?
That is "no Trek." It's caving to fannish obsessions with continuity instead of innovating and making the best show you can dream up.

Any pitch that starts with the premise that the era is that important is looking out the wrong end of the telescope.

Among other things, there are no essential differences between historical eras in Star Trek. It's always about people in a Space Navy flitting around in FTL starships, shooting things with ray-guns and teleporting from place to place except when it's inconvenient to the plot.

Looking at the whole history of Trek, the studio's stated plans and the current entertainment climate, I expect that SNW will remain the franchise high point for a long time to come. So I don't care whether they do more or not.
