I'm calling it now: the next movie will be a reboot of TNG that isn't set in the future of the Abramsverse.
This would actually be an interesting way to go with the franchise. If the movies are successful, they can expand the 24th century every few years. A new series, meanwhile, could redefine the birth of the Federation, maybe beginning with the first true Federation starship with a crew of humans, Vulcans, Tellarites, and Andorians. That would also allow for the TOS era, which has been revisited more now than any other, to get a rest for a few years.
My cast for a TNG reboot film:
Picard: James McAvoy
Riker: Liam Hemsworth
Data: Charles Melton
Geordi: Kingsley Ben-Adir (not yet Chief Engineer, but assists the Chief.
Troi: Lilly Collins
Worf: Winston Duke (not yet Chief of Security)
Yar: Samara Weaving
Bev Crusher: Rachel Brosnahan
Wesley Crusher: Iain Armitage
Lt. Jae (helmsan): not sure yet, but it would be a cameo from a big-name actress
Q: Tom Hiddleston
