What Star Trek episodes or films have you been watching lately?

"The Doomsday Machine"

Once you get past a few hammy moments early on (like Commodore Decker and Captain Kirk's first, very OTT interaction) this is a great episode of the series. And the remastered effects, though not always perfect, definitely add a sense of scope not present in the original.

Harvey:

I love the Remastered Version of Doomsday Machine. In fact, I think it is one my top favorite episodes. So frigging cool. I can watch that one over and over and easily get enjoyment from it.

However, one of my favorite scenes in the Remastered Versions is when the Galileo shuttle craft releases the rest of it's fuel in attempt to get the Enterprise to notice her (In "Galileo Seven").

Now that scene is just the shiznit.

I just finished watching Conspiracy. One of my favorite Season One eps of TNG, but I thought that the acting by the people playing Admirals Aaron and Savek(or whatever his name is) was...very clunky.

I had also watched Ethics before that. Not too much to say beyond that I liked it.

VOY's "Future's End Part l and ll"

Wow. I didn't expect that I would enjoy re-watching this two parter. However, I really loved it. Granted, it is not flawless or awesome by any means. But it was really a lot of fun. I appreciated a lot of the things that we see in other time travel films in this.

1. The name of the episode is used in First Contact...

2. The part where we see Captain Braxton arriving 30 years before Voyager in Earth's past (even though Voyager entered a few seconds behind him) is a time travel concept used in JJ Abram's Star Trek.

3. Semi Truck charging towards our heroes is a nod to the Terminator films.

Also, the alteration within the time line is either a pre-destination paradox within the local time line or it is an altered time line. Future technology is used to create the computer age within the late 20th Century.

I watched it a few days ago, it's solid for a season 1 episode, but I was most shocked how wooden Gates McFadden's acting was. In the scene when she came to check the admiral, I first thought she had been possessed by the parasite, because of her blank face and how alien and robotic she seemed. Then I realize that Crusher was normal and it was just McFadden's acting. :wtf:

The acting from everyone else (except Stewart, of course) ranged from average to adequate. (If Crosby had been there, it would have probably made McFadden look better by comparison, but this one came after Yar's death, I think.) Stewart seemed like a top notch actor stuck in a B-movie cast.

Fortunately, as far as I remember, most of them got much better in later seasons.

I've been watching DS9 Season 5. Next up is Let He Who Is Without Sin, which isn't my least favorite episode of the series...not even close.

Hey, I just passed that one a few days ago.:bolian:

Next up for me is season 5's "Ferengi Love Songs".

"Journey to Babel"

Justifiably considered one of the definitive Spock episodes, this installment of the second season introduces Sarek and Amanda to the pantheon of Star Trek, although this is their only appearance on classic Star Trek. It might have an overstuffed plot, but I don't mind.

It's too bad the Tellarite make-up is so dodgy, though when the aliens reappear on the show I remember it being much improved.

This was near the end of Season 1, so I have to wonder if she had found out they wouldn't be bringing her back for the next season at this point.

This was a bit of an odd episode. I mean, I enjoyed it, but there were times when I went "Huh?"

Like, why no one had apparently checked Captain Tryla Scott's neck for the gill. Or what happened to the parasite that Admiral Quinn brought aboard, or what happened with the homing signal, or what happened with the other parasites, and so on.

Fortunately, as far as I remember, most of them got much better in later seasons.

Oh, definitely.

I watched VOY's "Faces" last night and realized something. What they did in Human Error saying that there was something in Seven's mind to prevent her from becoming fully human (Personality and emotionally) was kind of the same thing they did in Faces. I loved Torres, and thought her character as a half human/half Klingon was interesting, but I started to think how interesting if would have been if she had lost the Klingon side all together. That would have certainly changed things up a lot.

I am currently re-watching TNG, my girlfriend said she has never watch it, and since she never watched star trek untill the new movie, i decided to give her a test run on TNG. So far she really enjoys the show, Season 1 was hit and miss with her, but no that were are into season 3 she has been looking forward to watching it. her fav characters are Data, Picard, Riker, and Worf. she generally likes the entire cast except for Dr Crusher, who she thinks is very bland. hopefully when we finish we will start on DS9. I am slowly turning her into a trek fan!

I have mixed feelings about that episode. It was a very good use of the Viidians and wonderfully creepy... but B'Elanna being split into a wimpy Human and an angry Klingon :wtf: made absolutely no sense at all. :vulcan:

"The Omega Glory"

What else can be said about this episode, from the Great Bird himself, which fails on just about every level? Perhaps the only saving grace is Morgan Woodward, whose second role on the series is just as batshit insane as his first. By the time it gets to flag waving (and a terrible bit of audio editing that obviously removes a bit between the Kirk/Spock/McCoy triad) it's fallen completely apart.

"A Taste of Armageddon"

A bit outlandish, but a good commentary on the effects of war. There are some strong Kirk moments in this one.

I've re-watched the entirety of the first season with this episode, which is simultaneously very fun and very rough around the edges. Details are in flux, changing from week to week, but the series never had stories as consistently good as in the first season.

I just started DS9 season six, and am on the last two episodes of the six episode arc that starts the Dominion War.

I'm watching an ep a day of TNG while i am on the treadmill. Unfortunately, today's episode was Sub Rosa. *shivers*
