What Star Trek episodes or films have you been watching lately?

Captain's Holiday

Been ages since we've seen this one, just absolutely dreadful. Reaffirms my hatred for the whole of the Ferengi race.

Continuing to watch the third season...

"Spectre of the Gun"

Basically, "The Corbomite Maneuver" crossed with "Arena." And yet, it's one of my favorite episodes of the series. I love the surreal atmosphere of the incomplete western town, as well as the look of the Melkotian. The closing sequence, which places Spock's mindmeld in counterpoint to the impending doom of the Earps, culminating in the fence being torn to shreds behind Kirk, McCoy, Spock, and Scotty while they are unharmed at the end is simply sublime. Yes, Chekov's resurrection is a clumsy moment, but at least an explanation is provided.

"The Savage Curtain"

A rather silly outing, with a few hints of brilliance. The scene between Uhura and "Lincoln" is a nice moment. The introduction of Colonel Green, Kahless, and Surak nicely expands the Trek universe (though Kirk's complete ignorance of Vulcan history is hard to believe).

Scotty places Lincoln's presidency three centuries ago, and Kirk mentions that they can convert to minutes and miles, even though they regularly use both units of measure. Even this late in the series it's annoying that such details couldn't be cemented down.

The last episode I watched was DS9's 'Civil Defences'

I absolutely adore that episode. It has some great interactions between characters. It seems like it was a more lower-budget episode, but that could just be me.

I'm currently re-watching DS9 and I'm only up to Season 3, mostly because I don't have a lot of time to watch things.

Back to the second season, polishing off the last few episodes I haven't re-watched.

"Friday's Child"

Reading some reviews of this episode online, it seems as if it isn't very popular, but I've seen far worse. There are a few holes, though. Scotty figures out the Klingon's ruse, and then sticks around for a little while longer...just because. Kirk intervenes in Eleen's execution and it is announced that Kirk will be executed. In the next scene, Kirk and co. are just waiting around in a tent. I guess the executioner won't be arriving until Tuesday. I'm not sure why the Klingon vaporizes Maab in the end--I know Maab is supposed to be creating a distraction, but it isn't very convincing.

But...it wasn't a bad way to spend 50 minutes. The outdoor photography was nice, despite being (once again) Vasquez rocks.

Yep, one of my favorite of the early episodes. And that was the best part about early DS9, they did alot of those so-called "bottle shows" that for some odd reason, most fans hate, but I love. And this was one of the better examples.

No episode in particular, but rather a two seasons watching-spree :D I've been watching seasons 1 and 2 of ENT recently, and I'm surprised to say I've grown quite fond of it. I mean, I never was in the ENT-bashing camp, but I certainly didn't enjoy it that much when it first aired.

I guess some things do get better with age.

Looking forward to seasons 3 and 4 :techman:

Back to Allegiance real quick, why did the crew accept Capt Picard's return so quickly? It could very easily have been another duplicate.

"Let That Be Your Last Battlefield"

This might be rather simplistic in its visual allegory, but the dialogue given to the two Cherons makes this episode a much more complex installment. The biggest problem, alas, is the camera work. Apparently in homage to the Batman television series (which guest star Frank Gorshin often frequented), every time there is a red alert the director decided to use a rather clumsy fast zoom in/zoom out. It's jarring and distracting. The final moments add further clumsiness to the proceedings, combining unnecessary stock footage of WWII with camera angles that eliminate any sense of rage or hatred in the performances of the two guest characters.

The self-destruct sequence, repeated almost verbatim in "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock," also makes for a nicely dynamic sequence.

I know I've been putting off the truly appalling episodes of the third season, but so far, it hasn't been so bad.

Captain's Holiday

Been ages since we've seen this one, just absolutely dreadful. Reaffirms my hatred for the whole of the Ferengi race.

But it introduced Vash. It deserves points for that.

My DS9 re-watch is winding down. I just finished the season 7 episode "Treachery Faith and the Great River". One of the good ones. I've always loved the Nog/O'Brien subplot in this one.

Just watched TNG Ssn 4 episode Remember Me. What a great episode!

"I won't forget. I won't forget any of you."

Right now going through TNG in order. Season 5 is up next!

No it doesn't. It was only the sheer suckitude of the Ferengi outstinking her character that makes her seem tolerable by comparison.

Watched Transfigurations last night. Don't think I'd ever seen this one all the way through. Not a horrible ep, but didn't really seem to have much happening.

"That Which Survives"

Not a bad episode, but pretty average. The sexism displayed by Kirk and Sulu is off-putting (Sulu says he doesn't want to kill a woman...apparently he didn't bother trying to stun her; Kirk asks to speak to the men rather than deal with Losira). There's also the weirdness surrounding Losira--it takes D'Amato and Sulu forever to recognize the woman as the one who was in the transporter room (speaking of which, is this the only time in the series where the crew members move around during transport? I know that effect was used with the TOS movies, but it's out of place here).

Some nice moments with Scotty, though (it seems like he's in every episode of season three) as well as Spock and the little seen Dr. M'Benga.

Started Season 2 of Voyager tonight with The 37's. What were the four first season episodes of Voyager held until the second? What could be considered the true Season 1 finale?

I just watched DS9 episodes... Necessary Evil (S2) and A Time to Stand (S6).

Odd couple of episodes to watch, but I'm watching whatever episode touches my fancy, as I am re-re-re-discovering DS9. Tomorrow Im going to watch "The Jem Hadar" :)
