Personally, I didn't add it because the relationship arc between Spock and his father was very small within Star Trek XI. But you can add it if you like.

The episode introduced Sarek and Amanda (and it's the only TOS episode featuring them, they only reappear in the movies), and in addition Amanda mentions Spock's childhood when he was bullied by other children for being half-human. (For the latter, TAS "Yesteryear" is also relevant.) All of this was a quite important part of STXI.

2. Amok Time (For Star Trek 11)

Reason: Kirk and Spock fight one another.

The fight in STXI is more similar to their fight in This Side of Paradise - Kirk uses very ugly insults to provoke Spock into losing his temper and beating him up, but he has another motive for it that's basically for Spock's own good and the common good (in one case, to free him from the effect of the spores, in the other, because Spock Prime instructed him that he should find a way to remove Spock from command). His insults in TSOP include insults to Spock's parents, and in STXI he provokes Spock by mentioning his mother.

I've noticed that the music in season three, along with lots of other minor details (like Scotty's sideburns) give the show a different feel than it had in the first two seasons. This one, which I didn't remember that well, was a little sentimental for my tastes (the music really made it schmaltzy).

But it looked great in HD nonetheless.

I started DS9 season four this morning, and had the time, so I ended up watching all of disk one, and started disk two with Indiscretion which is not one of my favorites despite some good Kira/Dukat moments. Next up is Rejoined, Starship Down, and Little Green Men. Three excellent episodes in a row.

I'm looking forward to breakfast tommorrow.

I've noticed that the music in season three, along with lots of other minor details (like Scotty's sideburns) give the show a different feel than it had in the first two seasons. This one, which I didn't remember that well, was a little sentimental for my tastes (the music really made it schmaltzy).

I love the music in season three. I thought it was some of the best musical scores in TOS, and the soundtrack CD's that include those episodes are among my favorites.

More emphasis on strings and romantic themes in S3. More winds in S1 fo sho (except for Conscience of the King). TV scores in the 60s were winds-heavy; I believe they thought it punched through the tinny speakers better; plus Star Trek was action, so winds are a natural. I'm glad also for the different tone in the music in S3.

SUBJECT CHANGE: Just watched "Ultimate Computer": better than I remembered. Daystrom is humane (re. not killing humans) and there's some nice dialog with Kirk and McCoy about humans and being obsolete, etc. Those quiet moments are to my mind, more common in S1, so it was nice to see.

There are a couple CGI shots that look bad in the Remastered Version. In fact, there is even a special effect of an enemy ship firing in one of the episodes (can't remember which one) and it looks like some kid drew a green smear across the screen with fluorescent paint. However, overall I think the majority of the effects actually enhance the Original episodes, though. And I own and have watched the Original Versions many times over.

I mean, it's the option of watching a model (which is sometimes on a string) or a really cool looking CGI shot.

And by the way, I actually hate the overuse of CGI most of the time in movies, too. Like "I Am Legend", "Die Another Day", "Van Helsing", and the Mummy sequels. It just looks absolutely fake and ridiculous to me.

I mean, for me it is totally a jaw dropping experience to watch the Remastered Version. But everyone has their own unique tastes I suppose.

Personally, I would rent the Remastered Version of "Doomsday Machine" (Season 2 Disc 2) through Netflix. That episode actually impressed me the most.

They enhanced the color and cleaned up the scratches within the screen. So no. It isn't darker, it is just more rich looking and natural as if you were watching one of the other Star Trek shows. In fact, here is a brief behind the scenes clip on the process...

I have been watching 'Trials and Tribbleations', as it's included on the remastered TOS second season DVD. I must say, it is quite enjoyable. Pity the rest of DS9 couldn't be as fun.

Star Trek Soundtracks indicates that they are in fact re-recordings, and it's a pretty accurate site. The original recordings from Star Trek that have been made available so far only include music from the following episodes:

"The Naked Time"
"Shore Leave"
"What Are Little Girls Made of?" (partial)

Actually, looking at the CD cover of the recording in question, it even states "Newly Recorded Music..." right below the title. Yeah, they're re-recordings. But if you weren't able to tell the difference from the originals, that speaks well to the quality.
