Walking Dead Season 7 Discussion - Spoilers possible!

I'd really like to know what Negan did prior to the outbreak. I remember an older Costner movie called The Postman that is set in a post apocalyptic world (though without Zombies) where Costner's group also has to deal with a local warlord who was a copymachine salesman (something like this) before civilization fell apart.. it was both ridiculuous and gave a little food for thought as to how such a mundane existence could rise to power.

A recent show on NBC called Revolution had their psychopath be a former insurance salesman...

I know at some point they would..i doubt we will have see season 20 of the walking dead..it won't be for a few years, for sure, but they should plot out a wrap up m with some trap doors so they can easily edit.
You never know, as long as the viewers keep turning in, this show could become the live action The Simpsons

Maybe not with the same actors (few actors would like to play a role for 20 years especially if they don't need to because the main cast is surely paid quite well for one of the top TV shows currently) but i can see them slowly changing the cast either through death or them simply being written out.

I was a big fan of Grey's Anatomy from season 1 but this has happened there too.. it's now in its 13th season i believe and only a very small group of the original actors is left (haven't watched it for 2-3 seasons now) but since the premise of the show is open ended it works for them. "Old" actors drop out for various reasons and new ones get introduced.. some stick around, others don't work out and are written out.

Though if i wanted to see TWD after 20 years is another thing.. i believe the current cast is much too entrenched in the entire show so if they're gone it would have to be one hell of writing miracle to introduce characters with the same appeal anf fan following as Glenn, Rick or Daryl.

FOr Carol -- it's not out of nowhere...it's just all that trauma building up. Don't forget -- 2 years ago she was an abused housewife.

...and she lost Sophia--only to have the crushing experience of seeing her return as a walker. Moreover, on Talking Dead, Melissa McBride said Carol still has issues over T-Dog's death (rarely mentioned by anyone, but her adding him only justifies her current stand). So, piling Lizzie & Mika on top of that believably created a "I've had enough" mindset, as every conflict the group dealt with always ended up with the death of a loved one.

I have no doubt she'll come around... I wish that kid Ezekiel took under his wing would've mentioned Rick -- THAT would've brought her back right away. I think she'll be the reason that pushes Ezekiel to go ahead & go to war with Rick against Negan.

Convincing Ezekiel is one thing, but for now, I cannot see her joining the campaign. Just imagine how she will feel when she learns what happened to Glenn & Abraham.

Yeah, Morgan is moving -- but still retaining a legitimate philosophy . His idea of capturing Negan -- isn't that from the comics (not from pacificist Morgan, but from other characters). I think this war will still shake him. I hope it does not kill Morgan, but maybe make him want to leave..and then re-appear in the very last season. It'd be nice closure if he was there at the end of the show.

Yes, it is a legitimate philosophy--especially if one sees that no WD war (so far) ever settled conflicts--there was always a substantial price.

The good thing about this show (at least for the actors, because it sure as hell bugs the shit out of me), is that the format of focusing on one group or person per week frees up said person to do whatever he or she may want to do in other acting gigs. I can think of a couple of instances in the past couple of seasons where Andrew Lincoln's only been in two out of eight episodes, pretty much giving him a six week break (although not consecutive weeks). This might be changing for the upcoming All Out War story they seem to be heading for, but where else is an actor going to have such a huge fan base while only being featured in a handful of episodes a season?

"New Best Friends"--

So, the heroes have a deal with the Scavengers. The group leader studies Rick like he's a piece of meat....

One thing that should be explained is this group's peculiar manner of speaking--how did that happen? Why?

Now we know why Carol will not fight--well, we knew, but she spelled it out: if she loses anyone else, she will feel the need to kill, and there will not be any of her real self left. On that note, Daryl was wise to lie to her about the deaths.

Daryl was being as reckless with Richard (initially) as he was when seeking revenge for Denise's murder (last season). You would think Daryl would have learned his lesson about trying to attack the Saviors in that way, since he is now clearly aware of the superior numbers--and the price anyone will pay for the slightest act of loose, mindless resistance. While Daryl did not agree with Richard, he's still itching for some kind of war, which I suspect will end up costing Carol her life, as I imagine someone will tell her the truth.

Rosita...ugh. Still in asshole / "I'm gonna take on the world" mode--now attacking Tara with the "grow up" line. Something tells me the showrunners will "redeem" her by having her save Eugene--or fall on the sword for someone, but she's a relentless ass right now, and not at all a sympathetic figure.

Daryl might be correct about whatever Morgan had is no longer around, but he cannot assume everyone is in the same place--something he sees (and accepts) with Carol. Sure, Morgan's glance at Richard suggests he's weighing his options, but it would take much for Morgan to risk being pushed into the "clear" mentality again.

Nice dual meaning moment with Rick, Gabriel & Michonne; both Michonne and Gabriel were "enemies" when first encountering Rick.

OK, the new group is very Z Nation and not a good fit for Walking Dead.
God, you're right. They were weird, when she was talking about the up-up and whatever I was thinking of the kids from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

And was that a TRS-80 in the garbage dump? I mean, we always called them TRaSh-80's back in the day but what an ignominious fate.

I agree. The new group is very strange.
This new group that lives in the junkyard is very 'Mad Max', with their pidgin-English and thousand-yard stares. I might expect languages to devolve after a generation or two, but not after just a few years. All of these people were alive and living in 21st century America before the ZA started, so its a little too soon for them to turn feral.

Sometimes this show really makes out like it's been 50 years since civilization fell. How long has it even meant to have been? Like 3 or 4 max. I really found that new group so cheesy and ridiculous. Nevermind smiling, Rick and co should have been laughing at them, I know I was.

Rick having to fight the spike zombie to prove... what exactly? ...made no sense, seeing as how they've already seen how awesome he was at getting to the boat.

SO...is the new group completely original...I haven't read the comics, but some aspects sound like the Whisperers...and wondering if they will become enemies later.

Of all the people Richard revealed his plan to -- the absolute worst one. But at least it was before Carol was put in danger. I understand where RIchard was coming from (Carol's death would certainly motivate King Ezekiel)...but yeah, wrong move. The resistance he seeks is getting there...I am assuming Darryl will let Maggie know that the Kingdom is about to blow, so they will come together

Tara definitely getting the hint that she has to go get Oceanside's guns.

The Scanvenger's leader...she totally looked like she could become a Vulcan to me. ANd the actress, Pollyanna McIntosh, was on Talking Dead...combine that look with a Vulcan accent...she ought to guest star with SOnequa on ST:D

So Jerry - Cooper ANdrews - is JEWISH SOmoan? Interesting... ANd he revealed he has had weapons training and into martial arts since age 3. Right now, he doesn't feel like a warrior...but hope we get to see that real life training in action. If so, Jerry's popularity will jump even more.

I dunno, I liked the new group, mostly for me because it's interesting to just differently behaving people than what's expected. Yeah it's a bit illogical their form of parsed English is occurring "this soon" in the ZA but it could be they've just simplified speaking simply because it's more practical when out and about and needing to keep mostly quiet to avoid luring the walkers.

The size of the scrapyard seemed pretty enormous, though. Granted, I'm not greatly familiar with the DC/Beltway area but I suspect an enormous scrapyard like that doesn't exist and, theoretically, 3-years is enough time for this to be "built" it'd take quite an undertaking and surely would've lured walkers as well as the Saviors.

Yeah, Tara's going to need to come clean with Oceanside.

I liked the bit with Rick in the Walker Rancor Pit. I'd think Rick would be a bit more inventive in fighting it and not need help from Michonne to realize to dislodge some of the junk to try and pin it. And his first "weapon" is a keyboard? Really, Rick?!

I "get" where Rosita is coming from but she's still being a bit of an asshole.

Liked the stuff with Richard and Daryl, but was a bit confused on what exactly Richard's plan was at first.

Good episode, B-Season seems like it's going to be interesting and and fun.

The Scavengers are from issues 75-78 of the comic, and were antagonists. Jadis (the leader) is so strange and trying to read Rick, that she could be a threat at the same time she supporting the war with the Saviors.

Daryl is irresponsible--not only for trying to force Morgan to influence Ezekiel (nevermind the likely loss of Kingdom lives--including children), but going to the Hilltop as a wanted man. He cannot be unaware that if Negan (or Simon) discovered the "deceased" Maggie very much alive and Daryl there, then a tragedy beyond anything from the season opener should be expected.

Tara definitely getting the hint that she has to go get Oceanside's guns.

True--and I see something happening to the angry girl (who wanted to shoot Tara), since characters like that never just come and go from the series.

.but hope we get to see that real life training in action. If so, Jerry's popularity will jump even more.

...assuming he survives. "Loveable big guy" characters do not last too long on TWD. Just ask T-Dog...

Darryl has a crossbow again.. i never realized i missed this picture so much and i long to see the scene where he gets his own crossbow and bike back from Dwight. :techman::techman:

I love the buildup episodes so far.. slow and methodical, moving and putting all the pieces together and forming a plan. It's like watching a pressure cooker building steam and pressure until it's done.

Darryl and Carol scenes are always a highlight of the show, they have such a fantastic and close friendship and Darryl withholding the news about the deaths is just heartbreaking because he realized it would set her over the edge and after it the Carol he knew would be gone. However we as a viewer can be almost certain it will happen sooner or later, if only someone from Alexandria blurbs it out carelessly because they don't know Carol's stance on it. That will be very interesting to see what will happen then.

As others have said this scraoyard gang just felt off.. 3-4 years of realtime have passed and people have regressed to Mad Max levels? That felt unreal.. i can get psychological problems, living in such a world is horror and some people break but this seemed more like 2-3 generations of apocalyptic life where the memory of civilization has turned into legend. It bugged me and was the worst part of the episode.

I wonder what it will take for Ezekiel to turn.. he must realize that day by day the Saviours are getting bolder and nastier and that it can't go on forever. Does one Saviour have to kill that young guy Ezekiel seems so fond off or do they have to break the agreement and "invade" the Kingdom to loot there? I don't know but at some point he has to realize that the Saviours won't abide by the agreement forever if they feel they can squeeze out more from the Kingdom.

The only real interest the show still holds for me is the weirder stuff, like... kngs with pet tigers. So, I loved the Scavengers, bring it on!

I think a good number of viewers expect Benjamin (the young man) to pay for his bravery, and/or act as inspiration for Ezekiel to fight, but for the fact it is expected, the series would do well to have the kid survive while more experienced characters fall. New blood would be good for the series going forward.
