Brian Tatosky has mentioned a couple times on social media that we'll be seeing several DSC ships in season 3, and that the models have been refreshed with round TOS/SNW nacelles to fit in a little better with the era.It is probably a forlorn hope, but I do hope Admiral April's fleet in season 3 does include some DIS season 1 ships to fill out background numbers. The CG assets are available in their arsenal!

I'm ok with this, but my head canon was that the square nacelles were more advanced than the cylindrical ones seen on the Phoenix/NX-01 etc, and were a stepping-stone towards the TMP nacelles.Brian Tatosky has mentioned a couple times on social media that we'll be seeing several DSC ships in season 3, and that the models have been refreshed with round TOS/SNW nacelles to fit in a little better with the era.
You mean the fan art? Or the Klingon bootleg in SNW 2.01? Cos that was way more than round nacelles, it was a whole different body on a proto-Crossfield (as in, from the initial 2016 Discovery teaser trailer) saucer. We've already seen a round nacelles Crossfield, so it doesn't surprise me that they'd do it some more.
Yes.Or the Klingon bootleg in SNW 2.01?

Would you like to elaborate? The posts I'm referencing have been scrubbed, but I'm sure, with the premium you put on the transparent and journalistic-grade sourcing of VFX gossip, you've got a link and screenshot at your fingertips. You mentioned this before, but I don’t think that’s what he said.
That was a Klingon made Frankenstein ship.Yes.

I always figured that the boxed shaped nacelles were just 'round ones' with extra armor plating around them since the early starfleet ships didn't have powerful enough electronic shields that could withstand heavy weapons fire.Brian Tatosky has mentioned a couple times on social media that we'll be seeing several DSC ships in season 3, and that the models have been refreshed with round TOS/SNW nacelles to fit in a little better with the era.

Yes it also showed up at Starbase One at the start of the Episode, but that was probably a mistake based on the dialogue in the actual episode. It also had the same registry number as the Frankenstein ship.
