Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

It is probably a forlorn hope, but I do hope Admiral April's fleet in season 3 does include some DIS season 1 ships to fill out background numbers. The CG assets are available in their arsenal!
Brian Tatosky has mentioned a couple times on social media that we'll be seeing several DSC ships in season 3, and that the models have been refreshed with round TOS/SNW nacelles to fit in a little better with the era.

Sounds good...refits happen all the time, and since we know to expect them this go-round, it should be fine.

Which reminds me: I need to check on Brian Tatosky's accounts again, don't I?

I'm ok with this, but my head canon was that the square nacelles were more advanced than the cylindrical ones seen on the Phoenix/NX-01 etc, and were a stepping-stone towards the TMP nacelles.

But really it doesn't bother me. I think it would be cool to see them. And I bet if they'd had TOS-style nacelles in the first place a lot of fans would have accepted them a lot more easily.

You mentioned this before, but I don’t think that’s what he said.

Would you like to elaborate? The posts I'm referencing have been scrubbed, but I'm sure, with the premium you put on the transparent and journalistic-grade sourcing of VFX gossip, you've got a link and screenshot at your fingertips.

Uh, because we had this discussion only a few pages back in this same thread?

I always figured that the boxed shaped nacelles were just 'round ones' with extra armor plating around them since the early starfleet ships didn't have powerful enough electronic shields that could withstand heavy weapons fire.
(we do see the round end of the engines sticking out the front)

Eventually, the armor was removed because shield technology drastically improved and the added weight was a detriment with the advent of the Constitution class of ships.
And with the TMP upgrade, it was discovered that a vertical rectangle shape could accommodate a better design of the WARP coils instead of them just being a solid metallic circle.

That was a Klingon made Frankenstein ship.

Yes it also showed up at Starbase One at the start of the Episode, but that was probably a mistake based on the dialogue in the actual episode. It also had the same registry number as the Frankenstein ship.

How is that a mistake? How do we know they didn’t use that ship at the starbase to show that it’s still a legitimate Starfleet design, and the dummy ship just happened to share that design?
