Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

That was a beautiful soliloquy on Star Wars from Dave Filoni at the end of episode 2. That was almost like the perfect love letter to the franchise.

Very interesting. The actor is between the ages for the two possible characters
Boba Fett should be in his early 40 by 9 ABY
Rex, like most of the surviving clone troopers, is about the same age, but would appear to be around 80 years old.
But with Ahsoka people on the table, Rex is a possibility. Its only be five years since Endor, and Rex was at Endor.

But the question will come up when Rex and Ahsoka appear...what about Ezra....what about Sabine and the rest of Hera's group? Sabine would even be relevant since she is also a Mando, and has been in possession of the Dark Saber before.

I don't know if they'd want to spend the money for something like that on a TV show, when it would be a lot cheaper and easier to just hire a different actor.
Hollywood Reporter leaps to the entirely logical and understandable conclusion that Temmura Morrison would be playing Boba Fett. However, thinking outside the box, who else would you get to play... Commander Rex?

Rex has the advantage over Boba Fett of actually being an interesting character.
Ooh, I like that idea.

I've wanted to see live action versions of the Rebels characters for a while, and The Mandalorian would be a good place to do it.
Hera is a New Republic general in the Alphabet Squadron books, which take place 5 years before The Mandalorian, but I'm not sure how much has been established about the other characters in that era.

If The Hollywood Reporter says that Temuera Morrison is playing Boba Fett in The Mandalorian, that is exactly who he's playing.

It's a lot easier to make someone up to look older than younger, so Rex is very doable. Boba on the other hand could be done simply by having Morrison providing the voice, with a body double in the suit and just never have him take the helmet off (as was done with Pedro Pascal more than once.) Bonus points if it's Logan in the suit! ;)

As for where everyone else is: season 1 took place 4 years or so after Sabine & Ahsoka departed Lothal. That's a whole TV show's worth of possible adventures so there's no telling what might have gone down. Ezra could be dead, he could have opted to stay where he was, he could have gone back to Lothal or her could be chilling with Luke. Sabine could also have gone home or elsewhere. No way of knowing yet, but yeah, there's every possibility that if Ahsoka and Rex are showing up it's because of Sabine, not them per see.
On the other hand: he's looking for a place to take a force sensitive Yoda, and Ahsoka may be the expert he seeks out.

Side note: between a certain episode of Rebels and an implication in the 'Ahsoka' novel, it's possible in her time as Fulcrum she ran some kind of underground railroad for force sensitive children to keep they out of the grasp of the Inquisitorious, so that's also a possible tie-in point.

Indeed, Dave truly is the most important person in SW behind only George himself. And speaking of, this episode really did a wonderful job reminding us that George really was the heart of it all. Both the cool pew-pew stuff, and the actual characters and their stories that we became so enamored with. But Dave really understands the way George thinks, and because of that, like they mentioned in the previous episode, he really does just know what's "right" for SW.

One other thing worth pointing out, as Dave was telling that story, when talking about Maul, I believe he phrased it like "before George made me bring him back".

But yeah, this episode really was a lovely tribute to George. So many people on screen saying the likes of "I loved it when I was little, but I understood/appreciated it so much more when I was a lot older".

I think you're on to something here...

More unconfirmed rumors concerning animated characters appearing on Mandalorian season 2.

Sabine would be a logical choice given her back story and heritage and connections the darksaber. And Sabine was last seen with Ahsoka, who is also rumored to appear in season 2.

Hell, if they want to fully embrace the Mandalorian backstory established in Clone Wars and Rebels, not only should they bring in Sabine, they should also bring in Katee Sackhoff as Bo Katan.

There were actually rumors from all the way back in last year that Katee Sackhoff might appear. I think she was actually the first big legit rumor for season 2.

Surely it would be easier to add someone like Iden Versio to the game?
How so? I would think with the closer connection between the different shows would make it a lot easier to slip a character from one show to another, especially when the person who created those characters is already involved.

Because the actress is still in the right age. You won’t need to de age her.
They could say she has a connection with that MMA girl

Sorry Turtletrekker - I''ll take your word for it - but I'm not clicking on that link; the owner of that site really is a piece of work - and has been for many years (+ not just over what has happened of late).

Oh, OK. She just seemed like kind of a random character to pick to me.
