Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

Something that I just remembered that I posted in the anticipation thread-- Sabine's helmet was allegedly spotted amongst the props and molds back in late 2018 before the first season even wrapped.

https://makingstarwars.net/2018/12/...-the-mandalorian-and-the-avatar-2-connection/
Reading through the article it just sounds like someone saw The Armourer's helmet, or an early iteration/test casting of it.
Could also have been from one of the random "Tribe" Mandos in the covert. I don't specifically remember any females in the crowd, but there were children running about so maybe one of them had the owl style visor?

Remember this would have been during production of season one and we've already seen season one; there clearly was no Sabine to be had.

That's not to say she won't show up; the presence of *maybe* Ahsoka, and *maybe* Rex, and *definitely* the Darksaber makes it at least a plausible option, especially if the show wants to expand the scope of Mandalorian culture beyond a handful of Deathwatch/Mauldalorian cast-off zealots. It'll probably a bit of a culture shock for Dyn Jarren to meet an actual Mandalorian warrior clan like Wren, since he was raised by what is effectively some fringe cult claiming to be the last Mandalorians anywhere.

Awsome! The fact that they're bring Sackhoff back is a bit of a surprise after recasting Ahsoka. It makes me wonder if there was some specific reason they didn't want Ashley Eckstein to play her.
I wonder if whatever happened with Bo-Katan will help reconcile the differences between the Clone Wars and Rebels Mandalorians, and this show's Mandalorians?

I always thought Bo's face looked like it was modelled after Katee's. there's a resemblance there IMO.

It makes me wonder if there was some specific reason they didn't want Ashley Eckstein to play her.

I still think it's just up to who's had more experience playing in live action roles.

Eckstein doesn't really have any live-action credits in the last decade; she's been voice acting and creating Her Universe. Sackhoff has a lot more live-action experience.

So, have all these new people already portrayed these roles in the upcoming Season 2? Reason I ask, is that S2 has wrapped filming as of March 8 and all this new information is coming out now. Why didn't it come out earlier when they were doing the filming? Or was their on-set security that good as to not let anything leak until now?

A shame they didn't tap Ashley Eckstein to do Ahsoka but, to be fair, if they kept her, there would doubtless be the inevitable accusations of "whitewashing" a character that clearly isn't as lily-white as Eckstein is. I can understand why Disney wouldn't want to manufacture their own racial third-rail to fall on with that one by putting her in 21st century "brownface", despite the fact that the character is a completely non-human alien. Blue/green/other-non-human-skin colors are still okay for anyone to be made up in (for now). Sign of the times, I guess.

I guess this makes the Sabine rumors more likely as well. I mean it would be odd to have both Bo and Ahsoka and not have Sabine, right?

Also, even if next season isn't Grey's Anatomy's last, it's likely Kevin McKidd is probably leaving anyway. Just throwing that out there.

**I'd also like to add that I don't think it's so much about it just being "live acting" with Eckstein. It's bound to be an extremely physically demanding role. While I have no doubt she could get into shape if she wanted to, after all, she undoubtedly has access to some of the best trainers in the world through her husband. She simply might not want to. Dawson, however, has been doing physically-demanding roles most of her career. And, obviously, so has Sackoff.

According to /film we will indeed be seeing Katee Sackhoff returning as Bo Katan...

Not even a little bit surprised. Indeed I've been waiting for this announcement ever since December (I think?) when Sackhoff tweeted out that she'd just (words to the effect of) done something very cool that she considered a career high point. Given that's when they were filming season 2, it wasn't hard to put two and two together.
And as if that wasn't enough, when she showed up as a guest co-host on 'Blackman Beyond' around the same time (a very genre focused show/podcast filmed at a Star Wars themed bar) it was rather conspicuous how they did *not* talk about her being on Star Wars in any depth. Maybe I was reading too much into it, but I smelt an NDA...

Anyway, of all the characters that originated in animation, Bo Katan has to be one of the easiest to translate to live action (see below) so as soon as the darksaber showed up, it seemed very much like a no-brainer.

Well first off, keep in mind that unless I missed something the live action Ahsoka rumours are still just that (though I'm about 90% sure it's real.) Regardless; Bo Katan looks like Katie Sackhoff in a red wig. The same is not true of Ahsoka and Ashley Eckstein. I really wouldn't read any more into it than that.

Plus Sackhoff is a genre veteran and a very recognisable name and face outside of Star Wars fandom, so she's inherently a much easier sell.

Remember all those leaks about Baby Yoda (or the Darksaber or anything else they actually wanted to keep a secret) when they were filming season 1? Yeah, me neither.

I wonder how well the transition from animated character (in two shows that used different art styles and set 15 plus years apart in the timeline) will translate to live action set another ten or so years afterwards.? In addition the potential to have a definite answer to the survival of Boba Fett after many starts and restart to the post-Endor era.

Also the interesting question on if the Fetts were actually Mandalorians or just Bounty Hunters that stole their armor. Boba of course is a clone, but he got his armor from somewhere and specialized it to be very different from Jango's. (Jango is said to be from Concord Dawn, which is a Mando planet) Boba's armor isn't Jango's, or at least the helmet is not since Boba blew that up in an attempt to kill Mace Windu.

Good point. They must be orders of magnitude better at keeping those things under wraps than anyone in Star Trek productions.

What does Kevin McKidd have to do with The Mandalorian?

Yeah, I'd actually mentioned that Rosario Dawson looks more like Ahsoka in an earlier post. I just thought that since they recast Ahsoka, that they would be recasting any animated characters who made the crossover to live action, so I was surprised to hear about Katie Sackhoff.

What does Kevin McKidd have to do with The Mandalorian?
There were some scenes in "Heros of Mandalore" that implied there was some sparkage between Bo and Rau. At the very least, he pledged his loyalty to Clan Kryze. And there's no reason not to think he'd still be following her by the time of Mando. And McKidd looks at least as much like Rau as Sackhoff does Bo.

I don't think Mandalorian does any location shooting. That has to make keeping secrets easier, though probably not that much easier. A lot of it is probably just the sweet spot of luck and passionate cast and crew members who want the work to speak for itself.

I'm still blown away that the Child was kept secret until the series launched. Grateful, because that made the moment absolutely amazing as a viewer. But shocked.
