Spoilers The Expanse Season 6

Yeah, Laconia is a major plot element for Books 7, 8, and 9 which is simply getting an early introduction on the show.

A spin-off and a movie have been confirmed haven't they? That's what I read, hope it wasn't clickbait.

Nothing's been confirmed, at this point it's just popular speculation.

if they did a fold n hold on the Roci set (pretty much the only one that's stood the whole time) things could move on, if got torn down then things aren't so good for some-one to take over and continue.

Doesn't the book feature a 30 year time jump after the events of season 6? Would the roci still be around?

Episode 5 was another fantastic story. However, it's hard to imagine how they'll wrap everything up in just on episode, even if it's twice the length. I can certainly imagine them finishing off Marco in that time, but so many threads left unfinished, particularly whatever is going on with that planet, the missing ships, etc.

There'd better be a continuation/spin-off series!

I've mega-binged the entire show over the last couple of weeks, now ready for the final episode...

What impresses me most about this series (which is very very good) is the world building, especially the Belters with their culture and language. Its the sort of things ST should have done a lot more of...

In terms of culture and language it is great to see a truly international future and not just America in space which is what pretty much every ST other than DS9 feels like. Discovery for all it's diversity in other places feels like the entire crew is from California.

Helps that it's based on a series of books that did a lot of the heavy lifting.

Not as much as one might think, and really speaking, the world building came before the novels anyway since the initial intent was to create an open world gaming system, not a linear narrative.

Even so, reading back through the early books especially, the world building feels very thin on the ground compared to the show. That's largely because making the show necessitated making decisions about the kinds of granular details that would never fit inside a novel. In prose media you can describe and set the scene on Ceres's medina level in just a paragraph or two and get away with fairly broad strokes (unless you really want to be all Thomas Hardy about it.) But if you're shooting a show there suddenly you have to do a LOT more heavy lifting since you have to design the architecture, the costuming, and you have to actually develop Lang Belta a hell of a lot more more to support it, especially for the signage. All of which comes with it a lot of ephemeral storytelling which requires a lot of thought regarding history and culture that just isn't needed in the books.

Things like the belter tattoos often mimicking locking ring burn marks that come from wearing cheap vac suits for extended durations. How belters speak as much with their hands as with their words, since they've had to adapt to communicating while wearing such suits with helmets that inhibit normal human face-to-face communication. Indeed, the belter language alone is FAR more well developed on the show, not because the books were lazy or anything, but because the nature of the medium demanded a more detailed development.

I did not know that!
Yeah, the original project was going to be an MMORPG which is where the bulk of the initial world building and research comes from, and when that didn't happen it pivoted to a pen & paper RPG.
I'm not super clear on whether the latter was also a commercial venture that didn't go anywhere, or just something Ty Franck did for himself to put all the work done to some use, but in either case the way it got to be a novel series was that he (Ty) ran the game for a D&D type group of friends for a number of years before one of them (who was themselves an author IIRC) suggested they adapt it to a novel series due to the sheer volume of materials he had because "actual writers don't do this much research".

I might be getting my wires crossed on the details, but I'm pretty sure the reason Shed got killed off so suddenly and so early in the novel (and show) was that when they were running the game, one member of the group had to bow out mid campaign, so they basically had to have his character just die suddenly at the start of the next session and incorporate that into the narrative. So when they wrote the novels, it stayed in.
