The Down Under Lounge

Don't remember. Read it, and watched the movie, when they first came out. Memory is vague.

There is a scene with a girl and 4 males in a van and they trick her into having sex with all of them after pretending to fight and make her feel bad because of that and in a following scene later on, you see the same girl sitting on the footpath with what looks like cuts / bruises on her.

I was invited to a coronation party by a really nice lady in my neighbourhood. As I didn’t want to upset her on the spot I told her I would let her know if I could attend. Luckily I had an arthritis flare up so was able to get out of the party without lying about the reason.

Charles looks pretty poorly compared to his mother and grandmother at that age. If he carks it in the next year or so they won't dare go the whole pomp to coronate the next one.

Gabrielle Carey, co author of Puberty Blues, has passed away.

It was a generation defining book in its day, and was made into a movie and TV series. Also launched the career of Kathy Lette.

Same age as me. Disconcerting.

They are tip toeing around it but looks like suicide which is profoundly depressing.

Carey wrote over 10 books, I've read some of her memoir ones and they are very good. She had a crazy life but was a devout intellectual and academic. It's a shame she's most known for Puberty Blues but it was a very upending book, lit a feminist fire under many a reader. Written when they were both still teenagers.

OK, everyone’s opinion on whether Tasmania finally getting a team in the AFL should be dependent on $715 million dollars new stadium being built?

that the a(rsehole)fl can take the stadium idea and shove.

I strongly suspect there's a dirty deal the afl is neck deep in it.

Of course not.

The AFL - by some distance the richest sporting organisation in this country - has effectively blackmailed two governments into funding a completely unnecessary stadium so Tasmania can get the team it should have had decades ago. Even by the AFL's "standards", it's disgraceful.

Not as disgraceful as police tasering a 95 year old nursing home resident, but then it's difficult to imagine what could be worse than that.

I do believe that if the stadium goes ahead it will mean that the Liberals will lose the next state election. 70% of Tasmanians oppose the stadium. Already two members of their own party have quit and join the cross bench because of this decision and now the Liberals are a minority government.

I am not sure where they will get the workforce to build this stadium as there are already labour shortages in the construction industry. If they recruit a workforce from the Mainland it would just increase the housing problem.

As far as the elderly woman being tasers is concerned - it is shameful that the police was unable to manage, without resorting to violence, a very elderly woman who was using a walker and was only armed with a steak knife.

Edited to add- only 5ft 2 and 43 kg!!! What sort of threat could she have been. I was able to cope with an old lady hitting me with a walking stick when I was working in a nursing home when I was 17.
