“The Complete Book Of Gerry Anderson's UFO” and general UFO chat

I loved that show and the book looks really interesting. I just placed an order with the library for the 2006 edition.

Me too!

Thanks for the wonderfully detailed post. I was totally unaware the book existed, and now I'm psyched to get my hands on it.

It's kind of ironic that I saw your post today, considering that I'm currently reading UFO Secrets: Inside Wright-Patterson by Thomas J. Carey and Donald R. Schmitt, which deals with the premise that what crashed at Roswell in 1947 was taken to Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio for study and reverse engineering.

I haven't seen a 2006 edition, but I guess one of the differences in the reviewed edition will be the reporting of the passing of more of the cast members.

To my knowledge, the only surviving main cast members are Gabrielle Drake, Wanda Ventham, Ayshea Brough and Antonia Ellis; all the main male actors have sadly left us.

P.S. Just found out that today is Gabrielle Drake's 82nd birthday. Happy birthday Gabrielle, and thanks for making my teenage years a little bit brighter.

From the picture... you're not kidding.

I'm familiar with the "Technical Operations Manual" (I'm waiting for it become available for a reasonable price) and a few others, but the "UFO and Space 1999" book is new to me. Would you say it's worth getting just for the UFO content?
I picked up the technical manual and it’s ok. You’re smart to wait for a reasonable price.

I just learned about UFO fairly recently, but it's definitely one I want to check out eventually.

Although the show looks very 70s in appearance, the visuals for the time were outstanding, and the storylines were quite a bit ahead of their time. I remember it fondly and highly recommend it.

On a related note, just got the 2006 edition of the book from the library! Looking forward to sitting down and going over it.

Not that anyone asked, but if you were wondering about the only humorous bit I could think of in the original post, this is it. From the episode "Confetti Check A-OK", a flashback to when Straker sees his son for the first time.

and a Matter of Priorities aired before Confetti Check.

I initially thought that the flashback scene was in "A Question Of Priorities", but it wasn't, and I found it in "Confetti Check A-OK". Having just re-watched "A Question Of Priorities", I think that any kind of levity would have been absolutely out of place in that episode.

It recently occurred to me that another scene that could be considered funny, was Alec Freeman's laughable attempt at chatting up Doctor Virginia Lake (before she was promoted to Colonel) on the plane in "Identified".

Wanda Ventham was in the very first episode but was returned to the series after the first seventeen episodes by Ed Bishop himself who said he preferred her coming back to the idea of a newly created character called Colonel John Grey.

In Brisbane, Australia, actor Ed Bishop had been invited to be a guest at a large SF Media convention. At the last minute, he couldn't make it, but he promised to do a phone interview for the attendees.

I suggested to the committee member in charge of the control boards that she might try to locate a particular photo, and this image appeared on the big screen when Ed answered the call in the UK.

Hey @Eagan , thanks for posting this, I always loved UFO and didn't even realize this book existed.
