Spoilers The Controversial Star Wars Opinion Thread

I'll never understand why they didn't just bring Wayne Pygram back, they'd already cast him in Revenge of the Sith, and I'm sure he could have pulled off the role just as well as Guy Henry with the digital Peter Cushing mask. But I might be a little biased since I'm a huge of his from Farscape.
Yeah, I don't get that either and I would've preferred Wayne Pygram, too, since I'm also a massive Scaper.

Red Leader and Gold Leader are borderline but I can accept them. Similar with 3PO and R2.
I feel that Red Leader and Gold Leader fall in the same category as  Ghost, Hera, and Chopper (and the two Mos Eisley hoodlums) as fun Easter eggs but easily overlooked by casual fans.

But I agree R2-D2 and C-3PO are gratuitous.

Pygram's Tarkin looks significantly different from Cushing and you can get away with that in a movie set 19 years before ANH. If your movie is right before ANH, not so much.

Sure, but when the movie is being made 39 years after the original, I think most people will be willing to accept a bit of recasting.
Vader was trying to obtain the plans in that hallway scene. Didn't he kill the last Rebel who handed the plans to the blockade runner crew member before the hatch closed? If Vader was that close, he was trying to get the physical plans, which R1 established were not "beamed" to the blockade runner--a specific detail that was part of Vader's line from Star Wars.
It was one minor line in the movie, I really don't see where that big of a deal. Prequels and sequels do this kind of all the time, and I'm fine with it as long as I enjoy the sequel or prequel, and it's not something huge that totally destroys the original.
Agreed. All shameless fanservice which was not necessary to tell the story, and both were out of place because it was obvious it was your "applause" sign and "Remember this character moment from that classic Star Wars film?? Its here! Isn't great!!" flashing on screen.
Who care if it's necessary, it's fun, and that's all that matters. After all, isn't that the whole reason we go see movies, to have fun?

This is a place of subjectivities on fun. I mostly enjoyed Rogue One but Cassian and Jyn were not enjoyable protagonists for me so it's easier to be taken out of the story when the fun is happening.

You could throw in R2 & 3PO and the Rebels stuff ( the Ghost, Chopper, Hera namedropped over the base intercom ). And a reference to the Whills.
Maybe R2 and 3PO I would agree with, but Chopper is literally just in the background and indeed even knowing where to find him I still struggle to spot him when watching. Hera being announced over the intercom is just a harmless easter egg which Star Wars has always been engaging in to some degree, as is the reference to the Whills.

It was one minor line in the movie

It was a specific line--one which the R1 writers/producers could have honored with ease, but they did not, all to show Darth Fanservice moving in on / killing Rebels who were handing physical plans over to the blockade runner. The reason people even mention it to this day is due to remembering Vader's line from the original film, and seeing the deliberate switch up all for lightsaber porn.

Who care if it's necessary

^ .......okay....

I know that some people weren't happy about the direction that Sabine Week's character was taken in Ahsoka, but I maintain that her recognizing and trying to hone her Force sensitivity, no matter how low-level, actually makes perfect sense within the larger scope of her character arc.

Vader fanservice for the win!!!!!!!!

I don't think I've ever managed to spot Chopper.

I understand that, but I don't care, because I'll take getting a cool scene like Vader attack over being consistent with one minor line that really doesn't matter in the bigger picture of the franchise. I would be more concerned if it was a really important line that established something really important to the movie or overall franchise, but whether the plans were beamed, or passed through a door as Vader attacked the Rebels in the hallway, really doesn't effect the bigger picture.

Sorry, that was supposed to be who cares. I just forgot to read back over the post.

The Force wasn't even mentioned until well into Season 2 and the only time "May the Force Be With You" is spoken is by Bail Organa, mere minutes before the very final scene of the series.

He's on the left side of the scene where the comms officer runs out to tell Mon Mothma about the attack on Scarif. If you listen carefully you can also hear some of his vocalizations in the background audio

Also interesting tidbit, if you look closely at the Ghost, it's missing the Phantom/II in it's docking slot.
I don't believe it's ever been confirmed why.
I've speculated they didn't want to spoil the existence of the Phantom II, or they hadn't decided on what design it would be when they gave the Ghost model over to ILM to up detail.

The episode where they acquire the Phantom II aired 2 months before the movie released.
