News Adam Driver tried to bring back Kylo Ren with the help of Steven Soderbergh

What, he’s an Angry White Lord now?

"I was only following the Emperor's orders. But, now that I've been informed I was serving the Dark Side - whoops - I'd rather not rot in jail, so let's please let bygones be bygones, and allow me to live a quiet and peaceful life in freedom! It's the fair and compassionate thing to do!"

- Most of perpetrators of the actual Holocaust, when put on trial.

... Hell, we just got a movie about it, and not for the first time:

But there do seem to have at least been some implications that you're not fully in control of your actions when you're under the influence of the Dark Side. It definitely wouldn't excuse what you did, but it could be enough to get you a slightly reduced sentence, so maybe a few decades in prison, with therapy, instead of a death sentence.

Considering the complexities of this topic it makes sense to kill off these kind of characters. While in the Star Wars universe "the dark side made me do it" is a plausible reason it doesn't hold up to much scrutiny if they actually try to explore it.

Yeah, but Kylo Ren in particular feels the call of the Light, and has to actively work at staying on the Dark Side. That’s a choice, not a seduction anymore.

(Intentionally or not, maybe that’s why Anakin gets the yellow eyes when the Dark Side takes him, but Ben never does, at least onscreen.)

Hm... how's this...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
STAR WARS
EPISODE IX AND ¾, OR SOMETHING — THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO
While exploring the World Between Worlds, Jedi REY SKYWALKER meets a Ben Solo from an ALTERNATE REALITY who has struggled with the Dark Side, but never succumbed to it or murdered anybody, so he's kind of still a troubled bad boy, but not too bad, and shouldn't spend several decades in prison or anything. And, this Ben immediately falls MADLY IN LOVE with Rey, and pledges to devote his life to protecting her. It's like love bombing, but with actual follow-through. Lady schwing!
With alt-Leia's blessing, "BENJI," as Rey calls him, decides to live in her universe, but, in order to acclimate and survive there, he must drink a FABLED ELIXIR from the lost planet of Klathken. In order to find it, Benji must consult the true GOAT JEDI, GRANDMASTER AHSOKA TANO, who is still alive, for fascinating reasons that may or not be explained later. But, the twisted NIECE'S COUSIN'S SISTER of the infamous Asajj Ventress is hot on his trail...

True, but I tend look at is as something that people can't stop even when part of them knows it wrong, like a drug or alcohol addiction.

to be fair when thinking of who should direct a SW film his name wouldn't have been one that came to mind.
it's not Soderbergh that's the crucial element here, it's the concept.
