Inspired by recent posts in the Simon Pegg thread, I felt it was time for one these style threads in the Star Wars subforum. Largely because I often times have many controversial fan opinions about one of the franchises I have been interacting with the longest, surpassed only by Legos and Star Trek.

So, to kick it off here's one inspired by another poster:
I too like the Disney output a lot more than other Star Wars products, especially the PT and Clone Wars. The flip side on that is I like the PT era books more than most, especially TPM and ROTS novels.

As for Disney, I will add that I like Book of Boba Fett a bit more than the Mandalorian at present, largely because I feel that Din doesn't have a clear character arc. He might in Season 3, and he might not. But, right now, Fett has a clear arc, has a deeper emotional story and one that I still found largely enjoyable. Din, less so, save for his reactions to the needs of the story, i.e. vulnerable when needed, clumsy when needed, a cold hearted killer a lot of the time.

I don't altogether care for Rogue One, but it has some excellent additions to the Galactic Civil War in terms of tech and troopers.

Alright, that's mine, at least for today.

Would it be controversial if I said that there's only one thing where Star Wars is cooler than Star Trek; lightsaber.

The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars film of them all.

    I have a controversial one.
Although the one that started it all, A New Hope is actually not a very great movie. Directing, editing, pacing. All of those have issues. I love it to death, and rewatch it atleast it once a year. But quite technically, as a film, it's not that great.

Revenge of the Sith seems to be frequently mentioned as the best of the prequel trilogy.
However, I enjoy Attack of the Clones more.

Probably not controversial at all, but all SW TV and movies produced after the OT are sub-par and will never approach or match the impact (as filmed fantasy and its message) of the OT.

Finn should have been the force-related focus of the ST, with Rey playing a supportive role.

It's a question that I go back too, and recent forays in rewatching some Star Wars content has brought me back to this question of how to improve Star Wars. Now, mention that in particular company and no doubt accusations of poor parenting, and questions of your moral character. But, I think it's an interesting exercise in what could be done better, including with the directing. I recall one friend of mine who had done some work in Hollywood noted that Lucas is quite workman in his skills as a director. So, it's interesting to see what maybe could be done differently with a more adventurous director, or even reframing the initial story around the initial Rebel attack that scored a victory against the Empire.

But, yes, ANH, despite being my favorite of all the Star Wars films, could still be updated. And I'm OK with that. It takes nothing away from the original to say that.
    Same here.
Nor should they, in my opinion.

Resistance seems to be the weakest link. No one talks about it.

A New Hope is one of the weakest films in the series.

I almost agree with you. However, I think "Return of the Jedi" is weaker, along with the Sequel movies.

Rise is fine. It’s the one before that deserves all the hate towards it. :)

Nothing deserves hate. Unless it itself is promoting hate.
