I don't remember Berman ever stating that he wanted the Ent-E to look like a Porsche. I do remember Jeri Taylor wanting Rick Sternbach to change the design of the Voyager at the last minute because she wanted it to look like a Lexus.
yes, it was the suits who wanted the ship to look like an Akira and not an Enterprise who I was talking about that I commented that toward, not a random poster on a bulletin board a quarter of a century later. It would be a bizarre amount of hate to spew so randomly like that. There a few things that could have been better about Voyager, but chief among them for me is that it looks kind of pudgy. …that said, the Prometheus was overkill in the opposite direction. That ship looks like a modern day influencer who’s been on Ozempic to the point where they look bony and sad.
Re the Enterprise-E, I don’t remember where I heard it atm but yeah I definitely remember the Porsche reference.
I disagree that basing the NX class on the Akira was a bad choice, it actually was a great look. Enterprise had a lot of problems but the production design was excellent
She was right, the Voyager we got was better than the almost approved design, the saucer was too pointy in my opinion and the nacelles too long. I liked the sleeker and more elegant look of the final Voyager way more.
It was the design that was turned into a physical study model.
I used to hate the NX-01 design but I've gotten over it. But I still think that whoever had the idea that the interiors should resemble a submarine, had never actually seen the interior of a submarine.
I think it looks fine, other than the oversize runabout pylons which look out of place.
They probably meant a 22nd century submarine.
The runabout pylons never bothered me, they are a design piece that I could see getting up- or downscaled like the nacelles for various shuttles that had the same look as the starships (i.e. type 7 = galaxy class, type 9 = intrepid class). They stand out a bit if you know the runabout but I don't think they were distracting.

Personally I much prefer the final version with the underslung nacelles- it looks much meaner IMO
You know, I've heard this story forever, and I just don't believe that Harve Bennett was so stupid that he thought the ship was upside down. Sounds like an urban legend to me.

Oh sure, I can see that. It's just the whole "Bennett didn't understand it was upside-down" equating to Bennett being an idiot that I have an issue with.
Would that be the interiors of a Balao-class boat like the USS Pampanito and USS Bowfin? A German Type IX boat, like the U-505, in the Chicago MSI? A Nautilus-class boat? A Grayback-class boat, like the USS Growler? A Barbel-class boat, like the USS Blueback? I've been aboard all the vessels I named (and I usually visit the Pampanito every Spring)

Not to the extent that the Nautilus interiors resemble those of a 1950s or 1960s low-rent office building, and those of the other U.S. vessels resemble the interior of a diesel locomotive. About all I remember about the interior of U-505 (it's a fairly steep fee on top of Museum admission) is that it was at once technologically cruder, but (at least in officer country) more luxurious than a Baleo-class boat.
