Clearly the solution here is that I take over Star Trek and then I hire a very creatively stifled Ron Moore to write the best episodes.
I dunno, the 30th in 1996 had some worth to it. We had the release of First Contact as well as TOS crossover episodes on DS9 and Voyager, and I think there was a TV special to celebrate the anniversary? Maybe not as grand as it could have been, but not nothing either.I forgot about that. It seems the only anniversary that was worth anything in "recent memory" was the 25th.
How sad...![]()

I'm assuming at this point that the 'Origins' movie is apparently dead in the water. I haven't heard anything new about it for months.
20th anniversary had the release of TVH in theatres.
25th was TUC and the "Unification" two-parter in the fifth season of TNG.
30th was DS9's "Trials and Tribble-ations", VOY's "Flashback" and the release of FC.
35th was the ENT premiere "Broken Bow".
50th was the release of BEY.
55th was S2 of LD, S4 of DIS and the launch of PRO.
Fans could always do something.20th anniversary had the release of TVH in theatres.

There's usually always something for a Trek anniversary.

Depending on how it would've been executed, it could have been interesting. A true origin would almost have to be pre-ENT, but a story that might have examined the Earth/Romulan War, and the actual founding of the Federation might've worked as well.
Especially if the story ended with the unveiling of NCC-1701 in 2245. If you think about it, this would be the 'origins' of Star Trek as seen when the franchise began.
But I'm sure if we DO get something, it won't be along these lines.
I mean...it's a business. Should an anniversary always mandate a corporate response?I could see OTOY doing something cool. They seem to be the only ones truly interested in the franchise these days, above and beyond the corporate S.O.P.
Anniversary = rare marketing and merchandising opportunity = happy fans = increased revenues = happy business = happy shareholders. So, yeah, that's kind of the goal for any business.I mean...it's a business. Should an anniversary always mandate a corporate response?
Under normal circumstances I would agree. However, Paramount lawyers sometimes get cranky when fans go out on their own.If fans are so invested I would inclined to say making their own event. It would carry more meaning, as well as be free of the corporate speak people seem so hostile towards.
If they were not occupied right now I would agree. But I think if it's a big deal to fans fans should not wait on corporate response.Anniversary = rare marketing and merchandising opportunity = happy fans = increased revenues = happy business = happy shareholders. True but then I don't see the point of complaining when the IP holder doesn't do anything if the fanatics are sitting it out.Other folks are likely to sit this one out.
