The 60th Anniversary??

I forgot about that. It seems the only anniversary that was worth anything in "recent memory" was the 25th.

How sad... :(
I dunno, the 30th in 1996 had some worth to it. We had the release of First Contact as well as TOS crossover episodes on DS9 and Voyager, and I think there was a TV special to celebrate the anniversary? Maybe not as grand as it could have been, but not nothing either.

Of course, no one has ever matched the grandeur of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary celebrations. Now that's how to celebrate a franchise's milestone.

20th anniversary had the release of TVH in theatres.

25th was TUC and the "Unification" two-parter in the fifth season of TNG.

30th was DS9's "Trials and Tribble-ations", VOY's "Flashback" and the release of FC.

35th was the ENT premiere "Broken Bow".

50th was the release of BEY.

55th was S2 of LD, S4 of DIS and the launch of PRO.

There's usually always something for a Trek anniversary.

I'm assuming at this point that the 'Origins' movie is apparently dead in the water. I haven't heard anything new about it for months.

Nope. Just another instance of Paramount crying wolf to its investors. And that's fine, because the premise was pretty stupid.

Depending on how it would've been executed, it could have been interesting. A true origin would almost have to be pre-ENT, but a story that might have examined the Earth/Romulan War, and the actual founding of the Federation might've worked as well.

Especially if the story ended with the unveiling of NCC-1701 in 2245. If you think about it, this would be the 'origins' of Star Trek as seen when the franchise began.

But I'm sure if we DO get something, it won't be along these lines.

For the 25th Anniversary multiple games were released for DOS PC (In the CD-ROM version the original TOS cast are doing the voice acting), Game Boy and NES.

Fans could always do something.

This isn't a marriage anniversary. This is just marking the passage of time, with no work involved.

I could see OTOY doing something cool. They seem to be the only ones truly interested in the franchise these days, above and beyond the corporate S.O.P.

I'm almost positive it would have taken place in the near-present 21st century; it would have been an alien invasion story (but not Romulans); and it would have had Star Trek slapped on the title but otherwise would have had nothing to do with it, with the convenient excuse that it takes place in the past of the Kelvin timeline, therefore it doesn't break 'canon' (except that both the KT and the prime timeline have a shared past pre-2233.) It would have been just generic SciFi-Channel-level schlock. Just my $0.02.

I mean...it's a business. Should an anniversary always mandate a corporate response?

If fans are so invested I would inclined to say making their own event. It would carry more meaning, as well as be free of the corporate speak people seem so hostile towards.

Anniversary = rare marketing and merchandising opportunity = happy fans = increased revenues = happy business = happy shareholders. So, yeah, that's kind of the goal for any business.

Under normal circumstances I would agree. However, Paramount lawyers sometimes get cranky when fans go out on their own.

Now would probably a good time to prep something because they're all likely occupied with the merger, but I also suspect that the fandom is generally a little gun-shy about producing anything of substance these days for fear of litigious retribution. OTOY pulled it off because their project had been sanctioned by the suits, included Rod Jr. and the blessing and/or direct involvement from multiple franchise actors and production veterans, effectively making it "soft canon". This is why I think they have the best shot at making something.

Other folks are likely to sit this one out.

If they were not occupied right now I would agree. But I think if it's a big deal to fans fans should not wait on corporate response.

True but then I don't see the point of complaining when the IP holder doesn't do anything if the fanatics are sitting it out.
