Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Love this guy. The MVP in many episodes of the series.

Dr-Joseph-M-Benga-2261.jpg

Yep, M'benga is a tip top character, easily in my top 10 Trek characters. The character has fantastic depth, flawed but profoundly well intentioned and warm. He carries the scars of war and he feels the most "human" of all the Trek doctors really. All the Dr's are great dont get me wrong..but M'benga feels real.

He even drew Ethan correctly. The link is to DailyKos's comics page on his progressive blog, that was the only non-paywall source me and a Mod (thanks Spaceman Spiff) could find for the 'toon. Enjoy!

(edit) Someone in the comments (correctly IMO) noted that The Cage pilot finally, finally resulted in the creation of a series 57 years later which was based on it. Where No Man Has Gone Before is the pilot for TOS, with many changes from The Cage, and Gene was paid for both pilots by NBC. Spock is the only character link, and he is different in WNMHGB. Logical, no?

Booker Bradshaw wishes his character had been written so well.

My issue with M'Benga is I still have a hard time hearing what he is saying. He is a low talker. I always have to turn the volume up on my tv.

He also has a fake accent that's not remotely how Babs Olusanmokun actually talks in real life (for example look up his interviews or Brazilian jiu jitsu videos)

Wonder why he is using the accent. It doesn't line up with the TOS version of the character so it can't be for that reason.
