Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Paramount Plus sucks. Things freeze often. It's hard to maneuver on. It seems to be a issue that is developing with lots of streaming services. Disney plus and Netflix seem to be the best at avoiding those issues IMO.

It has stabilized in recent years. When it first rolled out I think they greatly underestimated the load requirements on their servers. Took them a while to upgrade and work out the glitches. Typical with any new stand-up tech. Every so once in a while it buffers, but nowhere near as pervasively as it used to be.

I had so much trouble with "straight" Paramount + on my Fire TV that I changed to a subscription via Amazon Prime Video. No problems since then.

Any guesses as to when SNW s3 gets released on DVD? Not that I'm in that much of a hurry, since I still haven't "dropped the final shoe" on DSC s5, am only halfway through LD s5, and haven't broken the seal on PRO s2.

Yes it does. I was wanting to see the credits for the second episode last night and as soon as it starts with the guest starring part, they shink the screen and tell me to watch Star Trek Discovery. Let me watch the credits. It's not so hard.

This season, "La'An can relax a little bit," reveals Chong. "She knows if this happens again, she's got this, and so does her team. This opens up a story for La'An, a love story, and a story where she can start to be a lighter version of herself. Well, I guess because La'An now is opening up to romance, there's that fear of being rejected

So is La'an romancing Kirk after Carol dumps him? Spock? Isn't Spock supposed to meet Leila Kalomi in 2261 so around this season? La'an romances someone else entirely?

Now that The Ready Room is done, can anyone recommend anything online that is simular? Preferably on YouTube that can serve as either a source of video interviews with production and or has recap/ connections with Canon etc? Official or otherwise.

I know there's fan podcast-like channels like 7th Rule or Trekyards. Not looking for that. Mainly channels that are pre-edited, promotional slanted. /after show-ish format. Not episode reviewes . Mainly just recaps and spotted Easter eggs that are not super long .?

Thanks. Will take a look. Taking a quick peak I see thumbnails like "Ups and Downs" and "WTH?"

Sounds a bit editorial-ish but will check it out. 👍

Edit: Pretty solid. Thanks .

I also stumbled across Sci-Finatics channel. The channel owner seems to have connections to the production and even did a recent interview with Babs, Milessa and and Celia .

It would be nice if there was a pure promotion type coverage out there like the Ready Room though. I like to keep the critique channels and promotion coverage separate. But even these 2 channels still harp on some negatives in their reviews.

Concur 100% - these are all of the things that soured me on the show last year, and made me feel like after a solid first season, it is going steadily downhill.

See, I think S2, by far, did riskier stuff. More swing for the fences stuff for sure.

In S1, the only "swing for the fences/risky" episode I can recall was "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach." Maybe the comedy ep with "Spock Amok."

Meanwhile, S2 had a comedy episode with "Charades." A much riskier/darker ep than "Suffering" with "Under the Cloak of War." Darker and riskier because you have main cast going dark, not a guest star. "Subspace Rhapsody" is a huge swing for the fences. Like it or not, that isn't a episode of normal Trek. Huge risk. Much more so than anything S1 did. Likewise "Those Old Scientists." A crossover from LD was hugely risky. Would audiences unfamiliar with LD even get it/like it? And while I don't think "Ad Astra Per Aspera" was necessarily risky, it certainly was a big swing. They were trying for a home run there. And hit one, IMHO. YMMV, of course. Carol Kane is a big swing. Having a La'An/Kirk ep was a pretty big swing, and I thought that ep was wonderfully done.

I mean, I guess S1 had some swings too. "Elysium Kingdom" was a big swing. Making Una Illyrian?

What, specifically, do you guys think made S1 more swing for the fences and S2 more aiming for a B+?

For me, the argument for S1 being better is that there were more consistent B+ episodes and less potential misses. The only real misses for me in S1 were the B plot in Serene Squall and the beginning of Elysian Kingdom, before you know what is going on. If the big swings (mostly) landed for you, like they did for me, then you probably like S2 better. If not, then S1.

But I think both seasons were excellent. Top notch Trek seasons. TOS1, TOS2, TNG 3-6, DS9 3-6, ENT 3 & 4, PIC 3, PRO 1&2, SNW 1&2 + at least 1 seadon of LD. Those are murkier for me.
