The nods to the TOS dress uniforms (and Man, are they so similar) and the courtroom witness chair with the light-up handrest are just exquisite.

I still thin k they look a bit Mass Effectish.

I always got Royal Navy from the Disco blues. But not in a good way.

For me it was "let's show the evolution from ENT's uniforms while at the same time all but ignoring the pullover shirts with bright or muted colors we've seen for 50 years." Because while I don't like them the DSC Season 1 and 2 uniforms show a clear descent from the zippered jumpsuit uniforms of 100 years earlier.

I thought Robert April's uniform in season 1 looked especially Mass Effect-ish. I've noticed that the modern Trek shows have taken a lot of visual cues from ME. Not that I'm complaining.

Given egalitarian nature of the Federation and Starfleet I don't always expect clear through lines as much as variations on themes.
