yes it seems there is some mass effect influences in this show.

I got that more from the DISCOVERY blues.
I always got Royal Navy from the Disco blues. But not in a good way.
For me it was "let's show the evolution from ENT's uniforms while at the same time all but ignoring the pullover shirts with bright or muted colors we've seen for 50 years." Because while I don't like them the DSC Season 1 and 2 uniforms show a clear descent from the zippered jumpsuit uniforms of 100 years earlier.
"Descent" is a decent description.
Yeah, they're fugly collections of fabric and shiny bits.
Given egalitarian nature of the Federation and Starfleet I don't always expect clear through lines as much as variations on themes.
