Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Question: how many years does Pike have from the start of SNW before he ends up in the chair? I know very little about TOS era Trek.
If the start is 2259; Pike has 7 years. Even given the fact that in TOS S1 - "The Menagerie", they state there's been Subspace chatter about the accident for months, if you go by what's currently accepted in fandom and Michael Okuda's Trek Chronology, the incident that causes Christopher Pike's injuries occurs sometime in 2266.

That said Captain James T. Kirk is given command of the USS Enterprise sometime between 2264 and 2265. So there's that aspect to consider as well.

Pike will still be healthy and walking upright by the time he hands over command of the Enterprise to Kirk. They still have a bare minimum of four to five years in-universe before the ship is no longer his and seven until he's confined to the wheelchair. Plenty of time for a lot of good writing and some fun adventures if they can actually pull everything off!

20+ episodes used to be about a year so no reason 10 episodes couldn't be half a year right?
No reason 10 episodes couldn't be 10 days. There's absolutely nothing set in stone as to how much time a Star Trek season encompasses.

In the Rick Berman era of Trek, they settled on one season equals one year. But there's no reason to believe they'll do whatever they want to do WRT the passage of time this latest incarnation of Trek. The entire series regardless of how long it lasts could all be said to take place in 2259 if that's what the writers and producers decide.

I guess we'll see once this first season of Strange New Worlds has completed streaming.

I love all the splashes of TOS-like color on the bridge displays.

Yeah I'm loving how it evokes TOS so much. Would love more film noir lighting with splashes of color and the beauty eye highlight Kirk used to get. But I'm over-the-moon with the look of this show.

Say, what the heck's Pike got on his uniform here:

Radiological badge?

and it has no trigger (on the top)
The trigger on the Type 1 was on the underside, so that tracks.

I have to say that this is looking really good so long as you put it firmly in the Alternate Timeline category. I've just about made peace with the idea that we will never get canon Prime continuity ever again. If the show itself is as quality as the trailers seen so far, I can live with it.

It's all Prime.

It helps to think of it like that bit in BTTF III when Marty moans about 'Clint Eastwood never wore stuff like this' in regards to the 1950s 'Woody' looking cowboy outfit Doc Brown gives him, versus the costuming in The Unforgiven or Tombstone etc.

We're seeing the same stuff, same objects, same tech, the same period portrayed by each production crew's contemporaneous sensibilities, resources and means of production and their allotted budgets.

Exactly. I mean, these images are from two different movies about Robin Hood

So, the second one is not a Robin Hood movie because Crowe doesn't have the Flynn's silly hat?
Every film shot after the one in 1938 should be identical to it in terms of costumes and sets, otherwise wouldn't it be a true "Robin Hood Movie"?

Come on!
