Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

If Paramount wants to release a trailer tomorrow, I'd be happy as a clam. But I know the series is premiering on May 5. I know who's in it and what it's about. Yes, I'd LOVE to get a glance at it, but, nevertheless, I know when the series will arrive. I've waited two years. Two more months of nothing won't kill me.

It was leaked, pictures and animated gifs, but they all had to be taken off again.
Perhaps we'll see a PIC trailer at the beginning of Disco tomorrow, and a SNW trailer at the end of both Disco and PIC :D

Exactly.

I suspect the earliest we could see one would be shortly after the conclusion of season 4 of Discovery. We'll be three weeks into Picard at that point and Paramount will want to start building up excitement for the next one.

‪‪Likely dates for the trailer’s release could include April 5th, on First Contact Day, or sometime April 8th-10th, during the Star Trek: Mission Chicago convention.

That's right - I keep forgetting First Contact day is now a day where they announce stuff.

I also have to say (and I could be SO UTTERLY WRONG about this), we've been discussing it on my Trek podcast that it seems more intentional that Paramount is witholding promotion on this one. It's got so much hype surrounding it and that in and of itself is keeping the hype train going.

Since the series is also episodic, I wonder how much more a trailer could even reveal. Lower Decks, for example, is my favorite in the current slew of new Trek shows and I don't ever feel like, "FUCK! When are we gonna get a trailer for this show's next season?" I know what the show is and what I'm in for.

Despite not even seeing an episode of Strange New Worlds, there's nothing else a trailer would be able to show me that wouldn't be potentially spoiler-y. And plus, I kind of like not seeing anything. I want to be surprised.

It would make sense, though I cannot imagine them releasing a trailer THAT close to the premiere date. My guess is they'd want to hype this months before it, so I'd say we get a trailer in the coming weeks, and then a new, longer trailer on FC Day. I think FC Day will also see trailers for LDS S3 and the remaining PRO episodes..!

That could absolutely be the case, but ‪‪I would think they’re holding off on releasing the trailer before this season of Discovery is over, and that only leaves a couple weeks before First Contact day.

Only time will tell!

Yeah, I keep forgetting April 5 is actually not *THAT* far away....

Another thing: you want to know what my guess is for the final episode of the season? I'm thinking that it will somehow involve the TOS aestetics: I think they will do an entire episode of SNW in the style of TOS: sets, lighting , 4:3 format, music, etc. It will be an atypical, out of the box episode..!

I know that feeling. This year feels like it’s just flying by! ‪‪I think you’re probably right about teasers for other stuff coming on First Contact Day, though ‪‪I wonder if they’ll be pulling back with the convention less than a week after?

It’s hard to predict the Paramount promotion plan consistently lately. They’ve been somewhat all over the place.

That could be a lot of fun, and ‪‪I could see it happening at some point over the course of the series for sure. ‪‪I do wonder what would precipitate that choice specifically, what story component might call for it. But ‪‪something along those lines is always a possibility!

I'm not sure I'd be keen on that. The more they draw attention to the fact that the different series have different styles of production, the more it makes the whole thing seem artificial.

Yeah, that's true as well. But I guess they could make it work. Maybe some outlandish, flamboyant Andorian designer called Theiza wants to re-interpret the total styling of Starfleet, and makes a pre-vis of some sorts (maybe on a sort of holodeck?) to see how it works. It could end with Pike saying something like: 'I'm glad we got things back to normal... I just hope it'll be a few years before Theiza's designs take over Starfleet completely...' And then Spock says: 'I liked them. They were... fascinating.' 'You've got to be kidding?', Pike says. 'Captain, I never kid.' They smile, sail off to another planet, end of season 1. Okay, maybe I'm getting carried away here... ;)

Sets, lighting, music might work in something like a final episode, or even just a final scene. But changing the format would be very odd XD

I can see them doing a Short Treks in true TOS style, but not a 40 minute episode.

No, that ain't happening. What you've seen so far is what the show is going to look like for the next 3-5 years.
