Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I like the uniforms a lot. Interesting how the female versions have the black side pieces and the male versions don’t, even though they do have the separate bits there. And they replicated the branch insignia patterns in the fabric, straight out of the Kelvinverse unis. Nicely done!
The men do have the black underarms too

eh…I don't like the little logo patterns on the uniform. Didn’t like them in the JJverse, don’t like ‘em here.

Me neither. But at least they're confined to the shoulder areas and these are actually pullover shirts like in TOS.

Closer looks at the uniforms

There is Discovery Season 4 stuff in here too, so spoiler warning

Edit: Here, I separated them from the Discovery spoilers

Damn...clicked through the star trek link and browsed the gallery and caught a glimpse of Kenneth Mitchell. Really hit me in the feels just seeing him suffering from ALS and at such a rapid pace. Been a fan of his since Jericho so this does hit double hard. Sorry going off topic.

The more I see these new uniforms, the more I like them. Too bad I can’t say the same about the exterior of the Enterprise. Oh, well. At least the interior sets look good.

When does the stardate calendar start its retrogression to 1312.4?

And no protest on this, Mark. I know how stardates work.

Stardates in DSC, TOS and TAS have been all over the map from roughly 1000 to 7000. At least nothing about that has changed in this era of history.

Possible first 4 episode names. It's from WeekInNerd but my phone won't let me copy the link.

Episode 1.1 “Strange New Worlds”

Episode 1.2 “Children of the Comet”

Episode 1.3 “Ghosts of Illyria”

Episode 1.4 “Momento Mori”

Illyria is Number One's homeworld from D.C. Fontana's old Pike-era novel Vulcan's Glory.
So not even 3 episodes in and we'll probably get Number One's horrifically tragic backstory or whatever. Let's start placing bets on her being part of the infamous Starfleet orphanage.

The Starfleet orphanage
Life in the 23rd and 24th century is usually described as being without any danger. Deadly diseases have been largely eliminated, technical devices (perhaps except for the holodeck) are almost totally safe, and the crime rate on Earth is zero (VOY: "The Cloud"). Life expectancy of humans is supposed to be a hundred years or more. Yet, it seems that, for a melodramatic impact, nearly everyone of the Star Trek main characters loses close relatives because of accidents, war, crime or "rare" diseases, rather than because of old age.

Shouldn't 1.4 be "Memento Mori" (A reminder of mortality)? Was this a typo or an intentional [sic] spelling?
It's both:
A momento is a reminder of something, especially a past event or time. It most often refers to a keepsake or a souvenir.

Momento is an alternate spelling of memento. It is sometimes considered a misspelling, but it is commonly used enough to be considered a variant. A momento can also refer to a warning. It is sometimes seen in the Latin phrase memento mori, but in this case it should be spelled memento, since it uses the Latin spelling.
