Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I'm gonna guess that came from Laugh-In. :techman:

Yes, it is indeed Laugh-in's infamous sneezing NBC peacock. ;)

More peacock goodness from 1979 (featuring TOS and a 24-year-old Kate Mulgrew as "Mrs. Columbo"):

I wonder if the ship will have saucer separation ability. I think in the tech Manuels it was said the TOS Enterprise could do this. Also I do want to see the Bowling Alley onboard. Also Pike needs to watch his tv. Seems his favorite show is the old historical classics of Young Shelton, CSI and whatever show is on the CBS lineup at the time.
He had one in his quarters in the Cage right? The quarters that had a bed too small for him? Is Dr. Boyce going to bring in some alcohol to have the captain drink on the job again?

It occurred to me that T'Pol would still be alive. Bring her on the show and have her claim that Trip Tucker's death was all a sham for the history books.

For the record T'Pol would be about 173 at the time of SNW's first season. Well within the established lifespan of Vulcans and decades younger than Sarek would still be when he was still an active member of the Federation Diplomatic Corps.

Maybe TPol and Trip eventually adopted a child and she became Number 1. Or she is the first Vulcan/Human hybrid were their human features were most prominent. T'pol and Trip in old age makeup along with President Archer are in the first episode basically as a nod to past Trek.

Trip would be long dead by 2259 anyways so don't even bother to retcon it even if you want. I don't like his death in "TATV...(ENT)" any more than most but they'd find a way to make his demise even worse.

Yeah, it's best to leave the character dead and gone at this point.

Potential new fans won't have the foggiest idea who he is, or the significance of his place in the mythology

Old fans will just roll their eyes at watching the writers getting wrapped around a Gordian Knot of an axle just trying to explain why he didn't die in the first place (holodeck story inaccuracy?) at the expense of the primary story they're trying to tell.

Don't bog down SNW on that ancient shit. Leave sleeping dogs lie.

HEY, LET'S GET MIKEY to SOCK IT TO US!

Was that the former Bruce Jenner doing the pole vault?

Now I'm feeling depressed realizing I watched 99% of those show clips when they Originally Aired.... :sigh:

One of the best NBC Peacocks happens in the opening moments of Johnny Carson's 17th Anniversary Special. :p

OT: IDK what NBC was thinking when they cast Kate Mulgrew as Columbo's wife. (Peter Falk was old enough to be her FATHER! )

There's a REASON the show was cancelled after one season. (Talk about robbing the cradle! :shifty: )

It never helped that in Columbo he described his wife as middle-aged, overweight and looking nothing like Kate Mulgrew.

Had she been Columbo's niece or something that would have worked. Columbo mentioned his adult niece in at least one episode.

I think you just nailed my issue with the new Enterprise bridge. Basically it all looks like it just came off the assembly line and probably even still has that new ship smell. But the problem is the ship is old. It's already had a 5 year mission under Robert April and I am guessing maybe another 5 under Pike. We are talking about a decade old ship.

Presumably the ship had undergone a fairly recent refit or two - one in which the holo-transmitters were installed, and then another in which they were removed.

Could easily have detailed the bridge on either occasional, regardless of how extensive the other work was.

If Star Trek so far is anything to go by, the ship might be especially prone to getting utterly wrecked at least once per season. Constant redecorating might be something typical of frontier explorers.

I'm not worried about the bridge and its detailing in the SNW context. It's the engineering from the Pike short that might be facing a radical "refit", as the virtual set isn't especially conductive of regular use. How the heck is the (so far unknown) engineering hero supposed to interact with that? We need an exciting workstation set, even if with a view of the impressive core doodad. And we'll probably end up having the doodad altered in the process, just like similar visual gimmicks in DSC kept on changing without rhyme or reason. Yes, I'm looking at you, turbolift funhouse - your existence is one thing, your changing looks is quite another.
